Registration is available for the 3rd annual “Books are Better Shared” on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center.
For book lovers and book clubs, the event is from 10:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 24932 Veterans Way. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. The event is hosted by the Mission Viejo Library in partnership with Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore.
Books are Better Shared is a social and literary gathering of book readers and more than 12 noted authors including Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Paul Brinkley Rogers with his memoir “Please Enjoy Your Happiness”; Stephanie Danler with her instant national bestseller “Sweetbitter”; as well as acclaimed author Lisa Napoli who speaks around the world about her first book “Radio Shangri-La.” Her new book about the late philanthropist Joan Kroc entitled “Ray & Joan The Man Who Made the McDonald’s Fortune and the Woman Who Gave It All Away” will be released mid-November.
Guests spend the day with book club leaders and authors who will help them explore exciting new ways to share books and give them the tools necessary to pick the perfect books. The event also gives folks the chance to meet publisher representatives who will share books they think will generate great book group discussions.
People with a passion for books and a penchant for giving back are sought to volunteer in the Friends of the Library bookstore.
If you love books and enjoy working in sales, then volunteering as a bookstore associate in the Friends of the Library bookstore will be a perfect fit for you. Duties include restocking and tidying up shelves, helping customers find books and handling cash and credit-card transactions. Volunteers are sought for the following shifts: Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Two associates are assigned to each two-hour shift and training is provided to all new volunteers.
If you are interested in one of these volunteer opportunities, contact Vickie Sullivan atlibraryvolunteers@cityofmissionviejo.org or 949-830-7100 ext. 5128.
