“CANTO DE ANAHEIM” with Pacific Symphony

Date:

“CANTO DE ANAHEIM” ON AUGUST 31 CELEBRATES THE MEXICAN-AMERICAN HEROES OF ANAHEIM’S PAST AND PRESENT WITH PACIFIC SYMPHONY

Pacific Symphony Awarded Grant from the Ann and Gordon Getty Foundation to Partner with City of Anaheim for One-Of-A-Kind Storytelling Spectacle

Pacific Symphony links arms with the city of Anaheim for a brand-new multi-disciplinary event celebrating the real-life stories of the city’s own heroes. Joining hands with Anaheim native and Los Angeles Times writer Gustavo Arellano, Breath of Fire Latina Theater Ensemble artistic director Sara Guerrero and community band director Greg Flores, “Canto de Anaheim” invites residents from Anaheim and beyond to gather for a night of celebrating Anaheim through theatrical storytelling, and—as always—exciting music!

“Canto de Anaheim” takes place on Saturday, Aug. 31, at 7 p.m at Pearson Park Amphitheatre (401 Lemon St., Anaheim, CA 92805). Admission to this concert is FREE. This concert is being held in partnership with the city of Anaheim. For more information, please call (714) 755-5799 or visit the website at www.PacificSymphony.org.

The “Canto de Anaheim” program follows Gustavo Arellano, serving as host and narrator, as he details the stories of several immigrants from Anaheim’s past and present who have gone on to reshape their lives as well as their communities. These individuals will be represented by a cohort of actors and partnered with a Pacific Symphony brass and percussion ensemble. Additionally, conductor and arranger Greg Flores will be presenting a captivating program of works by Mexican composers, which will be paired with each story. Starting at 7 p.m., local music acts R.H.Y.T.H.M.O Mariachi Academy and guitarist Moises Vazquez will take the stage for some rousing musical entertainment. Prior to the concert, audience members can enjoy booths and activities starting at 6 p.m. featuring arts and crafts (hosted by Anaheim’s Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center), face painting (hosted by the City of Anaheim) and information about local organizations.
