Ford Mentors Work with District Students

San Juan, Viejo, Bernice Ayer, Shorecliffs Work with OC GRIP

Students from Bernice Ayer Middle School pose next to a Ford Mustang suring a trip to the Ford Motor Co. offices in December.

Students from four District schools participated in an innovative and exciting mentoring program through a partnership with Ford Motor Company and the Orange County Gang Reduction Intervention Partnership. Once a month, 10 students from San Juan and Viejo elementary schools and Bernice Ayers and Shorecliffs middle schools met with volunteer mentors from Ford. The students worked with their mentors to build a clay model car, design a car on a computer, create a sales plan, and other activities. The students were then invited to a congratulatory celebration at Ford headquarters in Irvine last Friday. Henry Ford III, the Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas, and other dignitaries were on hand as the students took part in car-building competitions and other fun events.
