tryout for the 4th grade spring/summer All-Net

Parents and Players:

South Coast NJB will hold a tryout for the 4th grade spring/summer All-Net competitive boys basketball team. This team will play in the NJB All-Net (competitive level) series with games on Saturday afternoons in the spring and summer. In addition, the team will play in a select number of tournaments (2 or 3 based on parent schedules) during the summer.

The focus of this team is skills development. This is the first opportunity for boys to play competitive-level basketball and the South Coast NJB focus is on developing players who will be ready for high school basketball in their freshman year. The team is open to 4th grade boys in Laguna Niguel, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente.

The team will be coached by Matt Beeuswaert. Matt is a former CIF player of the year, All-Pac 10 player, and European pro league veteran. He coaches a number of higher level club players and does personal training for high school and college players.

The tryout will be at San Juan Sports Park on FRIDAY NIGHT, MARCH 13 FROM 8 PM TO 9PM. We recognize that this is a late hour for 4th graders but it’s the only time we could get the gym this week. Practices will be in the afternoon or very early evening going forward. We will have a parent orientation meeting during the tryout that is mandatory. We will cover expenses, goals, schedules, parent conduct and player development. San Juan Sports Park is on Camino Del Avion near Del Obispo in San Juan.

2009 Swallows’ Day Parade Returns to San Juan Capistrano on March 21

2009 Swallows’ Day Parade Returns to San Juan Capistrano on March 21

San Juan Capistrano, Calif. – Over 130 entries will be featured in the 51st Swallows’ Day Parade in downtown San Juan Capistrano on Saturday, March 21, 2009. Fiesta de las Golondrinas – meaning Festival of the Swallows – activities pay tribute to the annual return of the swallows and San Juan Capistrano’s Spanish and western heritage.

One of the nation’s largest non-motorized parades, the Swallows’ Day Parade features 500 horses in various equestrian entries, high school and military marching bands, floats, folkloric dancers, historical reenactments and dozens of local community groups. Highlights include the 1st Marine Division Band, color guard and 1st Battalion 11th Marines from Camp Pendleton, the Kelly Boyz Dancers performing along the route to the live music of The Brant Vogel and Hell Bent Band and a horse-drawn Wells Fargo Bank stagecoach. Melitas Forster, great granddaughter of Don Juan Forster and original owner of the Swallow’s Inn, will serve as this year’s grand marshal.

The parade begins at 11:00 a.m. at Ortega Highway and Del Obispo Street and continues along Camino Capistrano. Attendees who arrive early can catch the annual Pancake Breakfast from 6:00 – 10:30 a.m. at the Women’s Club located at 31442 El Horno St. Another major parade-day attraction is the Mercado Street Fair with food booths and a variety of vendors that takes place at the historic Town Center Park off of El Camino Real and Ortega Highway from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

The Fiesta Association will host a Shuttle Bus from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with pick ups at Endevco and FluidMaster along Rancho Viejo Road between Ortega Hwy and Junipero Serra. Roundtrip fee is $2.00 for adults and kids under 10 free.

The Fiesta de Las Golondrinas is tied to the legendary return of the swallows to the Mission San Juan Capistrano on St. Joseph’s Day, March 19th. The square-tailed cliff swallows spend the summer in San Juan Capistrano and leave in late October to travel 6000 miles for a winter in Goya, Argentina.

A nonprofit, nonpolitical organization, the Fiesta Association is led by a board of directors and is entirely self-funded through donations and various fundraising activities.

Seabreeze Management Company Earns Highly Coveted Industry Accreditation

Seabreeze joins an elite group of seven community management companies in California also accredited by the Community Associations Institute.

Aliso Viejo, CA – Seabreeze Management Company, Inc. is one of only 140 community management firms in the United States to earn the distinction of being an Accredited Association Management Company (AAMC). This highly coveted accreditation is a tremendous achievement, one that represents an unsurpassed commitment to sound ethical practices, superior account service and continuing education.

“Our AAMC credential is an ideal example of what distinguishes Seabreeze from other community management companies,” shares Lisa Dale, Chief Executive Officer and founder of Seabreeze Management Company, Inc. “We place integrity on a pedestal and are committed to providing our clients with a high standard of professional service.”

Tax Revolt 2009: 15,000 demonstrate against California Tax Hikes

Tax Revolt 2009: 15,000 demonstrate against California Tax Hikes

Coming to your pocketbook on April 1, 2009, is the largest increase in state taxes in United States history.

For most of the past fiscal year, the state government of California has not had a budget. This situation culminated in the past month when state legislators convened midnight sessions to pass new budgets over a half year late. Included in these votes were raises in your car registration fees, increases in sales tax, and increases in your state payroll taxes.

Proponents of the tax increase are predicting dire consequences to medical programs, public safety programs, and state services. Opponents are questioning the effectiveness of state programs in light of the current economic recession.

Some citizens took matters into their own hands by attending a rally called by the John and Ken Show, heard daily on KFI 640 AM. The drive-time radio personalities have been discussing the state budget situation for months during their program. Recently, Aliso Viejo’s assemblyman, Chuck DeVore, was interviewed about his opposition to the tax increases.

Fullerton Police estimate that 15,000 people participated in the Tax Revolt 2009 Rally on Saturday afternoon. The crowds were vocal but peaceful with no incidents reported by Fullerton Police. Chanting “heads on a stick” and “liar” the thousands of protestors took over the center of Fullerton, jamming roads and even backing traffic on the local freeways.

Demonstrators from Southern Orange County were using the opportunity to gather momentum for their own initiatives, including a political committee called Taxpayers United to Recall Jeff Miller. The organization coalesced in the last few weeks in the wake of the passage of the new state taxes.

John and Ken have opined that the Republican legislators were complicit in the tax increases because the GOP Assembly and Senate leaders coordinated the tax hikes with the Democrats. Chuck Devore from the 70th Assembly District withdrew his participation in Assembly leadership to protest the tax hikes.

Miller is the Assemblyman for the 71st Assembly District, representing Ladera Ranch, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, Foothill Ranch, Norco, Chino, Corona, and portions of Orange and Tustin. As former mayor of Corona, Miller ran unopposed in the November 2008 election.

When Devore resigned as the Minority Whip, Jeff Miller took DeVore’s leadership position. Miller’s behavior has angered DeVore supporters and undermined DeVore’s attempt to roll back the tax increase.
