Seabreeze Supports Local Communities – The Dove Dash

Seabreeze Supports Local Communities

For the 3rd consecutive year, Seabreeze Management Company, Inc. will sponsor a well-known and cherished community event – the Dove Dash.

Aliso Viejo, CA – Hundreds of community members will walk, run or roll through the gated community of Dove Canyon on Sunday, March 15 as they participate in the 8th annual 5k Dove Dash. Seabreeze Management Company, Inc. is one of the sponsors that make this event possible year after year.

“The Dove Dash is an incredible event that gathers community members together to raise awareness and financial support for local charities,” shared Lisa Dale, Chief Executive Officer and founder of Seabreeze Management Company, Inc. “ Part of the event’s long history of success is attributable to the charity that it has supported for the past three years – Ryan’s Reach.”

Ryan’s Reach provides support to meet the demanding and complex needs of brain injury victims and their families. The founders of Ryan’s Reach, Doug and Victoria Corbin, are tragically familiar with the needs of individuals who suffer from a brain injury. Their son, Ryan, suffered a traumatic brain injury nearly nine years ago when he fell through a skylight at the top of his three-story apartment building.

Since the accident, Ryan has been treated in six different medical facilities and has gone through numerous specialized programs, as well as an ongoing program of physical, occupational, and speech therapies. Few insurance companies offer support for these ongoing necessities and the financial burden for families can quickly become overwhelming.

“Seabreeze Management Company is very proud to once again support the Dove Dash and Ryan’s Reach,” says Susan Larson, President of Seabreeze Management Company, Inc. “The Dove Dash is a true community event with involvement from residents as well as the business community.”

The Dove Dash 5k course weaves through the beautiful neighborhoods of Dove Canyon. The event begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. with an event tradition – a cannon “boom”. Following the event, participants will enjoy a delicious free pancake breakfast.

STUDENTS LEARN HOW PENNIES CAN PAY FOR CANCER RESEARCH

STUDENTS LEARN HOW PENNIES CAN PAY FOR CANCER RESEARCH

– Students in AV and Laguna Niguel are participating in The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients® program, which raises funds to find cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma research, and for patient services. Pennies for Patients is just one of the many programs within the Society’s School & Youth™ Programs. It has a double benefit because it allows students to develop compassion as well as learning the value of helping others as they work for a good cause.

This year the children will have a new partner in their battle against blood cancer. Crash Bandicoot, the valiant, action hero of the highly popular video game series, is the new national champion for LLS’s School & Youth programs. Throughout his video game adventures, Crash must battle the evil Dr. Neo Cortex and his no good ways. In joining forces with LLS, Crash now helps in the fight against leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

Pennies for Patient Program runs for a three-week period. The class collecting the most pennies and other spare change in the school will receive a FOOD party and the chance to win many other prizes for the school.

School administrators appreciate the value of having students work with a goal of helping others. “Our students’ involvement with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society reminds them of the importance of being involved with the community and helping those in need,”This is a wonderful program for us to take part in, and the expected results of our students’ efforts will benefit an outstanding organization.”

Since 1993, millions of dollars have been raised in pennies and other spare change by more than 10 million elementary, middle and high school students nationwide for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
During the 2007-2008 school year, over 10 million students across the country raised $20 million through the School & Youth Campaign. In Orange County and the Inland Empire, more than 500,000 students raised more than $576,000.

“This really shows kids that they have the power to make a dramatic difference in the lives of people who need their help,” said Janine Ingram, Executive Director of the Orange County/Inland Empire Chapter. “The support of all schools invloved will really help us in our mission of finding cures for these blood cancers and helping patients and their families deal with these diseases.”

For information on the programs and services available at the Orange County/Inland Empire Chapter of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, call (888) 535-9300 or visit www.lls.org.

Athletic Director has good news!, Aliso Niguel High School

Aliso Family,

Great news for the winter sports as the season slowly winds down and we gear up for spring.

This past weekend Aliso Niguel qualified our first ever wrestler, Brandon Huxford, for the CIF State Championships. Brandon and Coach Orndorff will be traveling to Bakersfield on Friday for the finals where Brandon will be competing in the 140lbs. weight class. He’s already had a tremendous season finishing 3rd overall in the CIF Southern Section Championships and any result beyond this point is icing on the cake. Both Brandon and Coach Orndorff have worked hard the past four year and it’s great to see the results.

Next, our girl’s soccer team will be traveling to Los Alamitos HS tomorrow for the CIF semi-final round of the Division I playoffs. Game time is 3:00pm and the address for the school where they play (don’t play on campus) is 10293 Bloomfield St, Los Alamitos, 90720. They have informed me that no bleacher seating is available therefore if you do plan on attending please remember to bring your own chair.

Good luck to both!

Mission Lutheran Preschool and Kindergarten provides an opportunity for your child to
interact with other children in a Christ centered environment. We offer a program
designed to enhance their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual growth. With a “hands

creativity stressed in our program include motor skills, art, music, math, reading
readiness and dramatic play. Our goal is to create an attitude of loving acceptance in
which all children will learn to like themselves and recognize their uniqueness as one of
God’s children.

Purim Events with Chabad of AV – Recipes from their website

What is Purim? March 9-11th for 2009

The festival of Purim is celebrated every year on the 14th of the Hebrew month of Adar (late winter/early spring). It commemorates the salvation of the Jewish people in Ancient Persia from Haman’s plot “to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews, young and old, infants and women, in a single day.”

The story in a nutshell:

The Persian empire of the 4th century BCE extended over 127 lands, and all the Jews were its subjects. When King Ahasuerus had his wife, Queen Vashti, executed for failing to follow his orders, he orchestrated a beauty pageant to find a new queen. A Jewish girl, Esther, found favor in his eyes and became the new queen—though she refused to divulge the identity of her nationality.

Meanwhile, the anti-Semitic Haman was appointed prime minister of the empire. Mordechai, the leader of the Jews (and Esther’s cousin) defied the king’s orders and refused to bow to Haman. Haman was incensed and convinced the king to issue a decree ordering the extermination of all the Jews on the 13th of Adar—a date chosen by a lottery Haman made.

Mordechai galvanized all the Jews, convincing them to repent, fast and pray to G‑d. Meanwhile, Esther asked the king and Haman to join her for a feast. At the feast, Esther revealed to the king her Jewish identity. Haman was hanged, Mordechai was appointed prime minister in his stead, and a new decree was issued—granting the Jews the right to defend themselves against their enemies.

On the 13th of Adar the Jews mobilized and killed many of their enemies. On the 14th of Adar they rested and celebrated.

Purim observances:

a) Reading of the Megillah (Book of Esther), which recounts the story of the Purim miracle. b) Giving money gifts to the poor. c) Sending gifts of food to friends. d) A festive Purim feast.

It is also customary for children to dress up in disguising costumes.

Purim Recipes

As the day that celebrates the salvation of the physical existence of the Jewish people, Purim is the most physical of the festivals. Its observances include giving gifts of money to the poor, sending food portions to friends, and eating a sumptuous meal accompanied by plentiful drink in the closing hours of the festival.
