Recipe of the Day – Cooking with Boca (Soy) Crumbles/ Fast Fried Rice

Fast Fried Rice

Prep Time: 10 min

Total Time: 20 min

Makes: 4 servings, 1 cup each
1 tsp. oil

1 cup frozen BOCA Ground Crumbles

6 green onions, chopped

1 egg, beaten

2 cups cooked white rice

1 can (6.5 oz.) sliced mushrooms, drained

2 Tbsp. lite soy sauce

HEAT oil in large nonstick skillet on medium-high heat.

ADD crumbles and onions; cook and stir 3 min. Spoon burger mixture to one side of skillet. Add egg to other side of skillet; cook until set, stirring constantly.

STIR in remaining ingredients. Cook 2 min. or until heated through (160ºF), stirring frequently.

From the BOCA website:

What are BOCA meatless products?

BOCA meatless products are a line of soy-based foods— from burgers to sausages to chik’n and entrées. Because BOCA meatless products are made with the nutritious goodness of soy, they help deliver vital nutrients and protein your body needs— like protein, fiber, and calcium.
What are the nutritional benefits of BOCA products?Sure, they taste great, but many BOCA products are also a good source of calcium, iron or fiber—helping you get the nutrients you need. All of our products fit into the USDA’s Dietary Guidelines. These Guidelines recommend eating a variety of foods and beverages within the basic food groups, while choosing foods that limit your intake of saturated and trans fats as well as cholesterol. All BOCA products are lower in fat, saturated fat, have no trans fat per serving, and most are lower in calories and cholesterol per serving than traditional meat-based counterparts.

Glad Tidings from F. Bailey at Corpus Christi

Fourth Sunday of Advent – Winter Solstice
Second Samuel 7:1-16 Romans 16:25-27 Luke 1:26-38

‘Then the angel departed from her.’ The angel is always departing…throughout Scripture we read of the angelic delivery of messages…and once the angels have said their peace…they depart. The angels don’t hang around to help us understand what was shared, they don’t offer to help in our confusion or promise to get back to us if we encounter struggle or confusion. Indeed, in the case of the ‘Annunciation’ (the angel sharing with Mary the news that she would conceive Jesus), the angel definitely gets the easy part of this deal, Gabriel does the announcing and once Mary has said yes, Gabriel departs. Mary is left to ponder what the message meant, has to struggle with her unmarried-pregnancy (an embarrassment that almost caused Joseph to divorce her!), with Jesus’ growth, ministry and ultimately his death on the cross. In this simple line ‘Then the angel departed form her’ is a reminder that for the most part we are left to our own devices to figure out what to do with graces received from God. We are not given an instruction manual on how to apply our gifts and abilities; we are forced into trial and error exploration of how best to give honor to God. With but a few days remaining before Christmas, our season of preparation is quickly coming to a close. Christmas will arrive and present us with the gift of the newborn Jesus….and after the Christmas carols have faded and the tinsel is gone, when the presents have been tucked away (or exchanged)…we will be left to figure out for ourselves what to do with the gift we have received. Thus has it always been…and at least in our confusion we can derive comfort form knowing that Mary, the Mother of Jesus, had to experience the same thing. One can only imagine the thoughts in her mind…. ‘Okay, so how am I supposed to do this?’ One day at a time….one day at a time.

Thank you for journeying with our Corpus Christi Catholic-Christian Community during these Advent weeks. The Bulletin has important information regarding the Christmas Schedule, please take a copy and peruse it. Please note the Parish Offices will be closed on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week. Christmas Eve and Day usually swell our Masses with fresh faces who are either visiting us, checking us out or giving the Catholic Church another try. Despite the crowds and the fact that your usual seat may be snatched by someone else…please remember to put on your MOST WELCOMING face, offer direction and guidance to those who look confused (especially about the location of the bathrooms) and generally provide our visitors with 1000 reasons to come back more regularly. As Christmas takes on a life of its own…remember, you are loved. A merry and joyous Noel to you and those you cherish. FKB

LEGOLAND Building Sixth Park In East Asia

LEGOLAND® PARENT COMPANY
ADDS NEW ATTRACTIONS
Merlin Entertainments continues growth
despite current economic slowdown

Carlsbad, Calif. (Dec. 15, 2008) –
LEGOLAND® California’s parent company, Merlin Entertainments, is building on its title of world’s second largest visitor attraction operator with two new exciting developments: the agreement to build a sixth LEGOLAND park in East Asia, and the acquisition of the Underwater Adventures Aquarium in Minnesota.

LEGOLAND® MALAYSIA

On Dec. 13, 2008, Merlin Entertainments signed a landmark agreement with Iskandar Investment Berhad, to build East Asia’s first LEGOLAND Park in Iskandar, Malaysia.

Merlin Entertainments will design and operate the Park, and will become a 20% shareholder, while a consortium led by IIB will own the balance. This exciting $210 million joint venture, LEGOLAND Malaysia, is expected to open to the public in 2013 and will be located in the northeast corner of Medini Iskandar Malaysia, a 2,300 acre international mixed-use development in the heart of Nusajaya. It will be the centerpiece of a 145 acre integrated complex that will include a unique lifestyle retail center, offices, hotels, serviced apartments and residential units.

LEGOLAND Malaysia will be similar to the company’s four other hugely popular and successful LEGOLAND Resorts – LEGOLAND Billund, LEGOLAND Windsor, LEGOLAND Deutschland, and LEGOLAND California. LEGOLAND Dubailand was announced earlier this year and is scheduled to open in 2011.

Targeted at families with children between the ages of 2 to 12, LEGOLAND Parks are based on the universally popular LEGO® products. They offer families the opportunity to let their imaginations run free and be immersed in LEGO experiences with a unique mix of kid-powered rides, building challenges, spectacular LEGO models, interactive attractions, family-friendly coasters and shows that pull the audience into the action. LEGOLAND Malaysia will feature more than 40 interactive rides, shows and attractions.

Spectacular Showing Of Boats at DPH Boat Parade of Lights

DANA POINT HARBOR, California –December 16, 2008

The 34th Annual Dana Point Harbor Boat Parade of Lights had a spectacular showing of boats over the last two weekends. Over 80 participants decorated their boats to the “Santa’s Sealife Celebration”. Horns tooted, crews yelled and even a showing by the Ghostbusters got everyone watching the parade into the spirit of the season. The last night was called off due to gale force winds and bad weather, but even so, many boats came out so the crowds could take part in this fantastic community event.

Donna Kalez from the Dana Wharf Sportfishing quotes “from the Hansen Family at Dana Wharf Sportfishing who takes the public out to participate in the Parade , we want to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the boaters for making all of our passengers so happy with the decorated and spirited boats. We felt it was one of the BEST PARADES EVER. Update On LDS Charity Work with Measles Vaccine

Aid Organizations Winning Measles Battle: Deaths Drop Dramatically

LDS.org Newsroom
12/15/2008 02:10 PM MST

Recently health and relief organizations announced that measles deaths decreased by 74 percent worldwide from 2000 to 2007. The number of deaths dropped from 750,000 in 2000 to 197,000 in 2008. The significant decrease in measles deaths was due to extensive vaccination efforts.

The Measles Initiative is behind the vaccination effort that has saved millions of lives. It’s led by the American Red Cross, the United Nations Foundation, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, UNICEF and the World Health Organization. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is also a partner.

“It is gratifying to know that, due to the generous donations of time and means of selfless individuals, millions of lives have been saved,” said Bishop David H. Burton. “The Church praises the work that has been done by all organizations involved to eradicate measles and is proud to be a partner in this effort.”

The Church first became involved in the measles campaign in 2003. It is now one of the Church’s humanitarian initiatives, along with clean water projects, wheelchair distribution, neonatal resuscitation training and vision treatment training.

Using 54,784 Latter-day Saint volunteers, the Church has contributed to measles campaigns in 28 countries. In total, 189,261,345 children have been vaccinated in the campaigns where Church members participated, according to Church Welfare Services. The Church has also donated millions of dollars to the effort.

“We have provided financial support, but even more important, we’ve had thousands of members of the Church involved in helping with these campaigns,” said Garry Flake of Church Welfare Services (video of the April 2008 World Report story).

The United Nations’ goal is to reduce measles deaths by 90 percent from 2000 to 2010. The Church will continue to be a partner in helping to meet that goal.
