April 25 – US TOO GYM Sponsors BREAKING BARRIERS WITH ART AND MOTION
BREAKING BARRIERS WITH ART AND MOTION
Free event helps children with high functioning disabilities explore potential
Lake Forest, CA —Children with high functioning disabilities are faced with the consequences of being different – from isolation to being labeled or bullied; these kids learn daily that they are not “normal.” However, on Saturday April 25, Us Too Gymnastics is taking the courageous step of showing these children how to explore their abilities and potential.
From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 at Pittsford Park in Lake Forest, Children with high functioning disabilities will be able to participate in drum circles, dance classes, track & field classes and games, while being entertained by a live band and the Us Too Tappers, all at the largest Universally Accessible Playground (UAP) in Orange County. At the same time, they will witness the continuation of an effort that aims to prompt a sea change in the treatment of people with disabilities including autism, Aspergers syndrome, ADD/ADHD, Down syndrome, deafness and hearing impairment.
At the event, a group of disabled children will run through a paper barrier, symbolizing the societal walls encountered daily by disabled people. Breaking Barriers is more than just a free event; it is also a social movement that promotes the humanity, abilities and success of disabled people. Breaking Barriers aims to impact people throughout Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.
Us Too Gymnastics is a recreational non profit organization where caring, specially trained instructors provide individualized athletic instruction for children; building a sense of self-worth, success and athletic skills toward the goal of transitioning each student into mainstream sports programs. Us Too Gymnastics is proud to present Breaking Barriers with Art and Motion in partnership with the Orange County Imagination celebration and the City of Lake Forest.

Welcome to Earthweek 2009: Green Evolution
Earthweek is both a celebration of appreciation for our earth and of the environmental movement’s successes thus far as well as an excellent opportunity for discussion of environmental issues and solutions.
Study after study proves that breast is indeed best for your baby. It certainly isn’t shocking to conclude that breastfeeding is better for the environment as well.
Breastfeeding requires no energy (other than mom’s) to
heat up the milk. There are no plastic scoops or containers involved, no bottles need to be manufactured or washed and it’s a 100% completely renewable resource. If the health benefits aren’t enough, breastfeeding is the easiest, least expensive, and greenest option for you and your baby.
In Celebration of Earth Week, Milkalicious is offering 15% off EVERYTHING in the store April 22nd – April 26th

Volunteers recognized Tuesday for contributions to Aliso Viejo
Volunteers recognized Tuesday for contributions to Aliso Viejo
Roughly 50 volunteers were recognized Tuesday during the city’s Annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at the Aliso Viejo Conference Center. The dinner was a way to pay homage to those who selflessly volunteer their time for the betterment of Aliso Viejo.
Some of the volunteers have worked at the city’s Family Resource Center and with the Boys & Girls Club. Others chipped in at last year’s Community Cup golf tournament and Founder’s Day Fair. Some spend their time serving as Planning Commissions or members of the Aliso Viejo PALS program and Neighborhood Watch. And still others continue to devote tons of hours to an array of projects such as assisting with the Chamber Street Fair, coordinating the annual spring clean up and recruiting volunteers. No matter what their individual contribution, each and every volunteer shares a common desire to make a difference in Aliso Viejo.
Mayor Donald Garcia and Councilman William Phillips attended the dinner to pay homage to the volunteers at the newly opened city facility next to the Aliso Viejo Country Club.
“You may feel that because you don’t get paid that you are worthless. But in fact, you are priceless,” Garcia said, thanking the volunteers for being the lifeblood of Aliso Viejo.
Tuesday’s dinner demonstrated the city’s appreciation of these dedicated individuals who step up to the plate and epitomize community pride and volunteerism at its finest. Along with a delectable buffet spread, the volunteers received certificates of recognition, a photo frame and special video collage of past events. They will join other valued volunteers on the city’s Web site Walk of Fame.
For information about volunteer opportunities, contact Gracie Duran, community services coordinator, at 949-425-2519 or at gduran@cityofalisoviejo.com. For information about the city’s Walk of Fame, visit its Web site at www.cityofalisoviejo.com.

Corpus Christi April 25-26 Calendar
April 25-26, 2009
Sometimes we understand Easter better if we start at the beginning…
Springtime-Easter Season Scripture study…
Corpus Christi Adult Faith Formation presents “The Stories of Genesis,” a five week course exploring the authorship, genre, content, symbolism, theology and modern impact of the Book of Genesis. This engaging and provocative course will be taught by Shawn Wehan (Coordinator of Adult Faith Formation) and will involve both lecture and small group sharing. Classes will take place on Tuesday mornings at 10am and repeated Tuesday evenings at 7pm. The remaining course dates are: April 28, May 5, (No Class May 12), 19, and 26. For more information contact Shawn at 949-297-8516.
Our SPRING Sacramental Prep Session approaches…
A reminder, our parish policy is that any family seeking the Sacrament of Baptism, First Reconciliation or First Eucharist, Marriage, needs to have been a REGISTERED PARISHIONER for a minimum of THREE MONTHS prior to the setting of any Sacramental dates. (Thus, someone registering today, may call in three months to begin the process of scheduling a date….not register and schedule at the same time.)
Our next Sacramental Preparation Session for families of children desiring First Reconciliation and First Eucharist here at Corpus Christi is scheduled for Saturday, May 16th at 2:30 p.m., concluding with the 5:00 p.m. Mass. Please note that participation at one of our quarterly Sacramental Prep Sessions prior to scheduling a First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is a parish requirement. You will receive your Sacramental Registration Form at the conclusion of the session. This policy is binding for ALL families, both those who have multiple children (who may have already received one or more First Eucharists, fresh attendance at the Sacramental Prep for each child is necessary) and for those approaching the Sacraments for the first time. To ensure adequate supplies, please call Peggy Armenta at (949) 389-9209.
It is important to note that these Sacramental Preparation Sessions augment but DO NOT replace our parish policy of parents teaching their own children the essentials of our faith and introducing their own children to the person of Jesus Christ. These Prep Sessions are final steps to ensure that parental education has indeed been happening.
Are you an Adult (over 18) who is a Baptized Catholic and who has received your First Reconciliation and First Eucharist…BUT….have never received the Sacrament of CONFIRMATION? Well, on Memorial Day Weekend (May 30th to be exact) the VIGIL OF PENTECOST is coming, and on that occasion, Bishop Tod authorizes parishes to offer the Sacrament of Confirmation to ADULTS who are our own parishioners. So, if you are a REGISTERED ADULT, 18+ here in Corpus Christi (sorry, no outside family or friends who are not already registered and participating here at Corpus Christi) as of March 1, 2009, and would like to be CONFIRMED on Saturday, May 30th …please contact Shawn Wehan at 949-297-8516 for information and the Adult Confirmation Prep schedule. Thanks. (P.S. We will eventually need a copy of your Baptismal Certificate and a copy of Your First Communion Certificate so you may want to start scrounging around for them.)

It’s for individuals, families, couples….anyone who calls Corpus Christi home!
2009 Summer Gospel Revival – July 29-30
Over the past series of summers, Corpus Christi has explored our Jewish roots by journeying back in time to the era of Jerusalem during the events of Holy Week; to Bethlehem for the events surrounding a particular pregnant couple; to Galilee by the Sea for powerful teachings and miracles…and last year the Journey to Rome helped us understand how we stopped being Jewish and became CHRISTIANS! This year, mark your calendars for something new, fun and uplifting as we experience a particular vibrant aspect of our Catholic-Christian heritage: ‘2009 Summer Gospel Revival’ on July 29th and 30th. Two nights of ‘mini-retreat’ for the whole family featuring two Gospel Choirs from Los Angeles and dynamic sharings from Fr. Charles Wood of St. Henry’s Parish in Gresham, Oregon. Each night will get underway with a family barbeque on the lawn – Southern California style – followed by a weaving together of the music and sharing by Fr. Charles. The evenings will come to a close with an open ‘ice-cream sundae bar’ with all the proper fixin’s. While a tent would have been a nice touch, in these days of cutting back, we will host it all under our South County stars and fill two hot-summer nights with laughter, prayer, music and some down-home wonderful aromas and tastes. Reservation forms will be available on the Concierge Shelves starting in May….but mark your calendars NOW… July 29 and 30th….come on down to the lawn and let the power of God revive you!!!!
With our severe budget cuts….we rely upon the goodness of volunteers more and more…. can you help?
Little Lambs needs you! Have you been enjoying the benefits of our child care services? Do you have a little time to give back? Just a once a month commitment is all we need! Sign up to help out as a volunteer caregiver during mass. Our numbers keep growing and we need more arms to keep our toddlers happy and safe. All volunteers must be fingerprinted and Safe Environment trained. Contact peggyarmenta@corpuschristialisoviejo.org. to find out how to be a part of this much needed ministry. Pastoral Council farewells and Pastoral Council Hello’s….
Since our establishment as a parish in 1999, Corpus Christi has had a Pastoral Council to provide reflection and vision to facilitate and anticipate the growth of our community. Not a Parish Council which frequently entails elections, policy determinations and implementation; a Pastoral Council is a ‘wisdom body’ wherein the overall health and direction of the parish is discussed and consistently reviewed. If you have ten different parishes, you will probably have ten varied approaches to the particular ways in which each PC operates. Here at Corpus Christi new members, after being recommended and vetted by the existing Council participants, are reviewed and invited by me (the Pastor) to join the PC for a four-year term. Our Pastoral Council acts as a consultative body for the Pastor, a group of individuals who are already woven within the parish community and who have a regular opportunity to interact with a broad cross section of parishioners. I can personally vouch for the value of their input and guidance over the years; in ways big and small they have loved, guided and protected our parish family. For the past four years we have been blessed with the presence of Kelli Day as one of our PC participants. Kelli has provided invaluable input and has ably represented the many constituencies with which she has been involved… I am deeply gratified by her tender faithfulness to Corpus Christi. As she completes her four-year term, we wish her well and look forward to her future involvement within our community. It is also my pleasure to share with you our newest Pastoral Council members who have been appointed for four-year terms; Mrs. Jackie Kleinhammes and Mr. Ben Chiu. Officially beginning their terms in July, both Jackie and Ben are familiar faces within a variety of parish ministries and will bring fresh vision and energy to our PC. I will personally miss the presence of Kelli as a regular participant within our PC, but I trust that the Holy Spirit will continue to weave her ever deeper within the heart of our community. With great joy I invite you to join me in welcoming Jackie and Ben who are signs of the continuing growth and renewal of The Body of Christ here in Aliso Viejo. FKB
