Networking and Employment Transition Support (NETS) Ministry: Landing the job you want is the most important marketing and sales job you will ever have and if your job research and resume are your marketing tools, then your interview is the sales call, and you are the “must have” product. A great sales rep knows the product inside and out, and can point out how it will make money, save money, and how it will benefit a potential customer. It is the same with a job interview. However, many of us are not trained in the art of sales and thus find it uncomfortable to do so, and so too many more can feel uncomfortable in an interview.

That will all change for those who attend the October 14, 2010 NETS Meeting from 7:30-9:30 p.m., where Mr. Scott Bailey will present the 7 simple steps of the Sandler Sales Program applied directly to job interviewing. In his presentation, entitled: “How to Effectively Sell Yourself in Interviews”, he will show you how to control an interview for the outcome you desire and the future you envision. As space will be limited, you will need to reserve a spot. Please RSVP by contacting Ed Jordan at ejordan@noletspirits.com or 949-389-1715

Corpus Christi’s 2010 Autumn Mass and Hoe-down at Oak Glen, Sunday October 24th
Just a week before All Hallows Eve, come out and celebrate with family and friends as Corpus Christi celebrates an Autumn tradition of heading to beautiful Oak Glen for an afternoon of browsing the boutiques, orchards and bakeries of the mountain community. Following an afternoon of perusing, nibbling and harvesting, head over to Los Rios Orchard for our Autumn Mass in the Meadow at 4:30 p.m., followed by a BYO Picnic Dinner on the orchard grounds. Los Rios will keep their bakery and barbecue open for those who prefer to purchase items there rather than BYO.

Following Mass/dinner, plan to linger as the 5-piece country-band strolls the property amongst us and eventually settles near the outdoor fire pit as the hills will echo with our festivity, (NO, the barn is not being rented this year.) Each family/individual is responsible for providing their own transportation, with the accompanying personal freedom of arriving and departing at ones’ personal leisure All this for only $8 per adult and $6 per child (over 2 and under 12)! Please RSVP no later than October 22nd! Autumn Mass and Hoe-Down Reservation forms are on the Concierge Shelves!

Protect yourself from the impending FLU season….

FREE Flu Shots (compliments of Hoag Hospital) will be available after all the Masses (as supplies last) NEXT weekend, October 16-17. Please note that we have a total of 500 doses…and will administer them until we have no more…so, if a flu shot is something really important…make sure you show up on Saturday while the supplies are ample.

As autumn unfolds, we prepare to honor those who have brightened our live and now shine in heaven…

Walking amidst the Christmas-filled glamour of Costco aisles, it would be easy to miss the weekend of October 30 – October 31st when we will anticipate and honor All Saints and All Souls at all our weekend Masses. As we commemorate ALL our beloved dead, be they official saints or simply saintly in our hearts. Please note that we will commemorate the actual All Saints Day on Monday, November 1st with Mass at 8:00 a.m. and the actual All Souls Day on Tuesday, November 2nd with the usual Mass as 8:00 a.m. Special All Souls envelopes are available on the Concierge Shelves by which you can list the names of your own cherished loved ones/family members you wish remembered at the All Souls Masses throughout November. Thanks.

Real patriots care for each other’s sons and daughters…especially MARINES away from home….

With the arrival of October, many of us start to anticipate Thanksgiving….and you might wish to give some thought to enriching your Thanksgiving experience by opening your home, and life, to hosting a Marine or two from Camp Pendleton for Thanksgiving Dinner. You would need to be pre-cleared through the Camp Pendleton Armed Forces YMCA (which oversees the program) and then you need to pick them up bright and early on Thanksgiving Day….and have them back on base remarkably early, usually before 6:00 p.m. BUT, the experience of hosting some other American’s son or daughter for the Holiday Meal is a heart-tugging experience. If you would like more information, or to get your name on the LIST, please call Suzanne Tabrum at 760-385-4921…and if this is something important for you….you need to call QUICKLY as their LIST is filling fast! Thanks!

Just in time for Thanksgiving hostess gifts or holiday stocking stuffers…
On November 6-7, CONCERN America will be present after all our Masses offering handmade items from El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, Ecuador and Bangladesh for sale. In purchasing these gift items you support the outreach of CONCERN America, an international development and refugee aid organization based in Santa Ana. You may also view their selection of crafts at www.concernamerica.org.

World Mission Sunday is NEXT weekend, October 23-24, when we will be accepting a second collection. Not unlike our July outreach when we generously responded to Dr. Geetha Yeruva and her lay organization, Foundation for Children in Need, WORLD MISSION SUNDAY is bigger and broader in scope. It brings the Mission Appeals ‘season’ to a close, and it is one more opportunity to support those who have little. Even in the midst of our own economic upheavals, we do not come close to the desperate levels of impoverishment that exists in so many parts of the world. As is our custom, a basket will be placed on the altar at the end of the weekend Masses for your consideration…envelopes will be on the pews.

Thanksgiving will be here before you know it….

A head’s up that our Parish Thanksgiving Dinner will again be hosted on the Monday of Thanksgiving Week, November 22nd and Scotty Eisenbart will again be coordinating. If you would like to volunteer to be part of Scotty’s Kitchen Team, please make contact with him at: 395-3073. Something NEW that we WILL be starting this year is a more orderly manner of setting up the tables on Sunday, November 21st. In past years it has become something of a madhouse rush as people depart from noon mass and people are moving in with tables….snarls are exchanged, mean-spirited looks are thrown around…it is a depressing way to initiate a week of ‘Giving Thanks.’ So…..in order to calm our savage beasts and become a bit more organized….while the chairs will still be emptied from the Grand Hall following the Noon Mass on the 21st , THOSE DESIRING TABLES WITHIN THE GRAND HALL WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE Grand Hall UNTIL 4:00 p.m….and they will be admitted BASED ON A FIRST COME-NUMBER SYSTEM!!!! We are renting an additional 50 rectangular tables for the outdoors and 300 extra chairs…. So…start making your plans…but let’s keep it orderly and peaceful!

There is nothing spooky about providing food for our hungry neighbors…so, please note that our next food collection effort to benefit the South County Outreach Food Pantry will occur on the weekend of October 30-31. Bring your non-perishable food items on that weekend and drop them in the special hamper on the courtyard. Thanks.

The Department of Homeland Security is funding a special citzenship program project through Catholic Charities of Orange County. This pilot project can assist you in becoming a U.S. citizen, naturalization applications, pictures, citizenship and USCIS interpiew prep and follow–up for cases with problems. For more information please call 714-347-9610. Thanks.

Special THANKS and APPRECIATION to our generous parishioners who loaned…and in some cases, gifted us with, the portable basketball hoops, bocce ball set, ping-pong table, balls of every sort. THANK YOU for being so generous on behalf of the priests of the Diocese of Orange. More gratitude to follow next week…this is just the start!!!
