Celebrate Mother’s Day, Father’s Day at the Ocean Institute

Show your appreciation to your parents on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8, and Father’s Day, June 19, with a visit to the Ocean Institute. On these days, the Institute will offer:

Sunday, May 8, Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day Brunch Sail (ages 4+) – A tall ship sail onboard the schooner Spirit of Dana Point; help raise the sails and steer the ship while enjoying the beautiful Southern California coastline. Brunch provided. 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. $45 adult, $30 child.
Mother’s Day Afternoon Sail (ages 4+) – An afternoon tall ship sail onboard the schooner Spirit of Dana Point; help raise the sails and steer the ship while enjoying the beautiful Southern California coastline. 2 – 4:30 p.m. $38.50 adult, $21.50 child.

Sunday, June 19, Father’s Day
Father’s Day Catch-and-Release (ages 8+) – A morning fishing trip onboard the RV Sea Explorer; the Institute provides the necessary gear. Includes continental breakfast. 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. $45 adult, $35 child.
Father’s Day Marine Wildlife Cruise (ages 4+) – Enjoy an afternoon with Ocean Institute scientists as they introduce you to wildlife along Southern California’s coastline, including a wide variety of fish, microscopic plankton, and animals that live in sediment retrieved from the ocean floor. Encounter a pod of playful dolphins or a passing whale. 2:30 – 5 p.m. $35 adult, $22 child.

Father’s Day Treasure Hunt (ages 4+) – Go on a scavenger hunt on the Institute grounds, take a sail onboard the tall ship Spirit of Dana Point. 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. $45 adult, $35 child.

Founded in 1977, the Ocean Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to ocean preservation through education, setting the standard for educational excellence and serving as a leading resource for universities, museums, teachers and all others seeking to increase their knowledge of the ocean. The Ocean Institute is open to the general public on weekends, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Cost: $6.50 adults, $4.50 children (ages 4-12), Ocean Institute members free.
