What is medicine? Does it necessarily involve drugs?
“Medicine should be defined by whatever makes life whole, by whatever restores soundness and heals. Christian Science has been demonstrating spiritual medicine and healing for over a century. People are discovering that the spiritual treatment Christian Science offers can provide more peace, more harmony, better health and a more balanced sense of life,” says upcoming Laguna Beach speaker Scott Preller from Andover, Mass.
Preller, a practitioner and teacher of Christian Science healing, is a Bible scholar and member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship. He will present a talk entitled, “The Medicine of Christian Science” on December 3, 2009, at 7:30 p.m.at First Church of Christ, Scientist, 635 High Drive, Laguna Beach, CA. The talk tells how an understanding of God proves to be supremely effective medicine. It answers questions such as, What are the side effects of this medicine? Is it truly effective? How do you take it?
The Preller family has been actively practicing Christian Science for five generations. Preller’s great grandfather was healed of serious heart disease, and his grandfather was healed of a shortened leg following a farming accident. During World War II in Germany, both his father and grandfather were imprisoned by the Nazis for being Christian Scientists.
Preller served as a United States Air Force chaplain. He has been a staff editor for Christian Science magazines, and his articles have also appeared in local newspapers and The Oxford Companion to the Bible. Preller has a deep love of the Bible and earned a Master of Divinity degree in Biblical Studies at Boston University. He has been in the public healing practice of Christian Science for 15 years. He lives in the Boston suburb of Andover with his wife, son and daughter.
