City of Aliso Viejo – Aquatic Center kickoff party on tap March 7 / Community Emergency Preparedness Academy

Date:

The city is gearing up for a fun-filled celebration to kickoff the 2015 swim programs at the Aliso Viejo Aquatic Center.

The celebration is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 7 at the city-owned facility flanked by the Aliso Viejo Conference Center at 29 Santa Barbara. It will feature bounce houses, balloon artists, face painting, games and food trucks in the parking lot of the center.  All activities are free, and guests can also opt for tours of the facility. Activities don’t include swimming.

Premier Aquatic Services, which contracts with the city to provide swim programs at the facility, will be on hand with information about an array of Aquatic Center programs including the group learn-to-swim, year-round swim team and new adult classes like Frogman and Aqua Zumba, among others.  The swim programs begin on March 30, with the official season starting May 2.  Information will also be available about season passes and fun-filled activities on tap this season.

For more information about facility hours, pricing and programs, call Premier Aquatic Services at 949-716-3333.

Registration now available for Community Emergency Preparedness Academy

The city is now accepting applications for its next Community Emergency Preparedness Academy that begins in March.

The free academy prepares residents to work together before, during and after a disaster.  The course is open to adults and teens attending with a parent.

Led by emergency personnel from collaborative agencies, the 6-week academy teaches participants about family disaster preparedness and planning; earthquake preparedness; fire safety, fire suppression and wildfire preparedness; light search & rescue; CPR/AED and First Aid; basic crisis intervention; and neighborhood mobilization.

The academy will take place on Thursday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. March 26 to May 7 at Aliso Viejo City Hall, 12 Journey. Dinner will be provided before each class starting at 6 p.m.

Class size is limited, so early registration is encouraged. To register and for more information, contact Aliso Viejo Emergency Management Coordinator Sarah Barker at 949-425-2598 orsbarker@ocsd.org.
