City of Aliso Viejo Mayor’s Message: Walk with us Monday nights beginning July 11, 2016

Date:

Mayor Mike Munzing talks about the Walk with Mayor program in the message that follows:

Our City is gearing up for the annual “Walk with the Mayor” program, which begins on Monday, July 11.  During this event, we take an hour-long trek around the Town Center Loop Trail starting at 6:00 p.m. This year, we are teaming up with Hoag Health Center and Raising Cane’s to host the event. Before taking off, we’ll meet at 5:45 p.m. near Edwards Theater (next to the driveway) in Town Center for some warm-up exercises led by Hoag staff members.

In my book, any activity that gets us moving – whether it’s walking around Soka University or mountain biking on our trails – is a good thing. I like this particular event because it’s designed to celebrate and embrace our pristine landscape while giving folks a healthy dose of exercise and chance to chat about issues that matter to them most.

Part of an ongoing City effort to encourage healthy lifestyles, this particular program started in 2007 as a walking club and way to introduce people to our award-winning trail. A year later, my colleague Bill Phillips, who was Mayor at the time, stepped in and the “Walk with the Mayor” was born.  Since then, people of all ages and fitness levels have joined us every Monday in July for the roughly 3-mile stroll.  It’s a nice way to meet new people, learn about the City and get fit. I personally look forward to this program, which complements the vast fitness opportunities available in our community. Along with the Town Center Loop Trail, which essentially loops around Aliso Viejo Town Center, we have access to the best trail systems in Orange County as well as wonderful fitness facilities and parks in town.

I really hope that you will grab your friends, family and neighbors and join me for a fun walk every Monday night beginning July 11.
