City to install lighting for Aliso Niguel High School’s batting cage |

The city is working collaboratively with Aliso Niguel High School to install lights at the school’s batting cages that will benefit the Aliso Viejo Little League and high school players in the community. The city will install lighting at the high school batting cages so that the school can use the cages at night. The Aliso Niguel High School baseball team currently uses Woodfield Park batting cages during evening hours because there’s not enough lighting at the school’s batting cages. As a result, little leaguers have less time to use the Woodfield Park batting cages. Allowing the school to use its own batting cages at night will free up time for Aliso Viejo Little League members to use the Woodfield Park batting cages. The improvement, one of several youth sports-oriented enhancements approved by the City Council, stems from extensive discussions with the city’s Recreation Ad Hoc Committee, led by Mayor Pro Tem Donald Garcia and Council Member Phillip B. Tsunoda, and various stakeholders in the community. “Youth are our future and it’s our job to do whatever we can to provide the best sports and recreation opportunities for the youth in our community,” Garcia said. “This project will be a win-win for the school, Little League and community alike …” The Capistrano Unified School District Board of Trustees approved the lighting agreement on Monday, with the Aliso Viejo City Council expected to follow suit on July 20. “It’s great to see multiple entities representing different constituencies come together and approve something that benefits the community,” Tsunoda said. “I’m looking forward to finalizing the other Recreation Ad Hoc Committee projects as well.” The lighting project is expected to be installed by the end of this month. ********************************
