Construction Projects Around Town
SDG&E Line Relocation
Starting May 7, 2012 SDG&E will begin construction on a transmission line
relocation project. The goal of the project is to replace the existing overhead power
poles located in the canyon between Beacon Hill Way and Bear Brand Park with
underground facilities. The SDG&E contractor will be constructing concrete vaults
and installing conduits underground on Golden Lantern, between Beacon Hill Way
and Camino Del Avion; on Camino Del Avion, between Golden Lantern and Bear
Brand Road, and on Bear Brand Park Road. The project is expected to take
approximately six months to complete. Traffic delays are to be expected and
motorists are advised to take alternate routes.
Crown Valley Parkway Widening Project
Phase II of the Crown Valley Parkway Widening project will begin on May 7,
2012. The project, located between Cabot Road and Forbes Road, will add a
dedicated left turn lane at Forbes Road, a dedicated right turn lane for the
northbound ramp and four continuous eastbound through lanes from Cabot to
Forbes.
The Crown Valley Parkway Widening Phase I project which began in July 2011 and is
currently under construction will add a dedicated right turn lane (beginning at
Forbes Road) for the southbound ramp, a dedicated right turn lane for the
northbound ramp and four continuous eastbound through lanes from Forbes to
match the current four through lanes that begin in Mission Viejo at the northbound
ramp. The full Crown Valley Parkway/I-5 Widening Project will widen eastbound
Crown Valley from Cabot Road to the I-5 northbound ramps. Both projects are
expected to be completed by December 2012. Once completed these projects will
significantly reduce congestion and will provide additional vehicle capacity.
Traffic delays are expected and motorists are advised to take alternate routes.
City Seeking Proposals for Gateway Master Sign
Program
The City Council on Tuesday night directed staff to issue a Request for Proposals from companies who may be interested in creating some new design “concepts” for signage in and around the Gateway area of the city. Graphic Solutions, the company engaged by the City to prepare the original Master Sign Program in 2000, submitted a proposal to update the Master Sign Program in light of the new opportunities presented with the creation of a pedestrian and transit-oriented urban village. The Council reviewed and discussed the proposal at Tuesday night’s meeting and decided they would like to see design concepts from other companies who may be interested in submitting a proposal.
The Council appointed Council Members Linda Lindholm and Gary Capata to an Ad Hoc Committee with two yet-to-determined Planning Commissioners to review the consulting proposals, interview several firms and recommend a firm for consideration to the full City Council. The process is expected to take several months.
