| Laguna Niguel Girls Softball Team Not “Reckless” in Showing Their Appreciation |
| Members of the Laguna Niguel Girls Softball Team “Reckless” appeared before the City Council on Tuesday where they presented the Council with a plaque expressing their thanks and appreciation for its support during this past softball season.
|
 |
Head Coach Larry Yellin gave a brief presentation on the team’s success from the All Star Tournament championships through the National Championships in Spokane, Washington. The amazing run started with the team winning 2 out of 4 All Star Tournament Championships with a 19-2 record. From there, they advanced on to the District Championships and qualified to move on to the State Championships. At the State Championships they played the eventual winner of the championship in their first game and lost 5-2. That unfortunate loss meant they had to win all of their remaining games to advance to the national championships. The team played from sun-up to sun-down and, at the end of the day, were on their way to the National Championships in Washington having won all of their remaining games.
In Washington, the team fought hard and parlayed a number one seed into a strong, deep run to the championship. Injuries, fatigue and other talented teams, however, kept them from the title. The team finished 13th place out of approximately 50 teams at nationals.
Mayor Gary Capata accepted the plaque on behalf of the City Council and congratulated the team on a great season.
