“We thank our deputies for keeping Mission Viejo safe.” Those are the words etched on a banner the city’s Community of Character Youth Team is hoping residents will endorse during Mission Viejo’s National Night Out celebration from 5-8 p.m. Aug. 2 in the Target parking lot at 25601 Jeronimo Road.
The idea for the banner stems from a resident who contacted the city asking how people could show support for our Sheriff’s Department, especially in light of recent tragedies around the country including Dallas, Baton Rouge and San Diego.
The youth members were already planning to host an activity during the National Night Out safety fair and got wind of the resident’s request, so they created a banner of support.
“Our youth members are inviting the community to not only come to the National Night Out event but also stop by their booth where you can drop off notes of appreciation or sign this huge banner with a note of support and thanks,” said Mark Nix, director of recreation and community services.
National Night Out is a community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live. The event will offer residents timely and important safety information along with fun activities for kids.
“So come on down Mission Viejo and show our deputies how much we care for them by shaking their hand, saying thank you and writing them a note,” Nix said.
