Meet Your Marines & Sailors Car Wash A Great Success!
Over 85 Marines and sailors from the City’s
adopted Marine Unit – 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, together with Mayor Linda Lindholm, Councilman Robert Ming and members of the Laguna Niguel Military Support Committee, raised more than $10,000 washing cars at Plaza de La Paz last Saturday.

The funds raised will be used in a variety of
ways to help the men and women who serve with the 1st Battalion, 4th Marines and their families. This has included sending CARE packages to the Marines when deployed overseas, providing baby-shower baskets to expectant wives here at home, sponsoring welcome-home events for returning sailors and Marines, and helping the unit put on social events.

In addition to the Marines and sailors who washed the cars, Committee members and other community volunteers contributed many hours to help make the day both fun and profitable. Special thanks go to Committee Member Adam Liquori, who was in charge of organizing the event, Plaza de La Paz for use of the parking lot, Walgreens, which helped sponsor the car wash and provided donors with discount coupons and other free items, and Starbucks for providing free Frappucinos to our hard-working Marines.

Mission Accomplished! Giant Lei Presented to USS McClusky.
It took 146 hours, 2000 red, white and blue
plastic bags, 2000 rubber bands and a team of dedicated volunteers to assemble a 100 ft. lei that was presented to representatives from the USS McClusky at the March 16th City

Council Meeting. Faith Lakamp, wife of the ship’s Commanding Officer and Kathy Bray, wife of the ship’s Executive Officer, accepted the lei on behalf of the sailors, and expressed their sincere gratitude and appreciation to all those who helped put it together.

Earlier this month, Carole Allen and Hugh Fryling of the Military Support Committee’s Welcome Home/Lei Making Committee put out an “all hands on deck call” looking for volunteers to help assemble the lei. The response was amazing. Volunteers from not only Laguna Niguel but our neighboring cities of Aliso Viejo, San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente answered the call to honor the men and women serving onboard the USS McClusky. “We are so grateful Carole Allen and Hugh Fryling for leading this effort” said Mayor Linda Lindholm, Co-Chair of the Laguna Niguel Military Support Committee. “I, along with my Co-Chair Robert Ming, would also like to acknowledge the following volunteers whose dedication and tireless effort went into making such a beautiful lei.”
