Corpus Christi Bulletin April 17-18, 2010

Date:

April 17-18, 2010

All are invited to the Monday, May 3, Book Club meeting. Come to Meeting Room 4 at 7:00PM. Our discussions will be on Still Alice by Lisa Genova and Look Again by Lisa Scottoline. Read at least one of them and join us!

Hey Middle Schoolers— Our next JAMS meeting is April 18th from 5:45 pm – 8:00 pm. Join us as we reflect on the new growth that comes with spring and how you, too, have grown since last spring! Natural signs of spring tie in well to our spiritual side of spring as we celebrate the Easter season and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This time of year is about new life in many ways, and it’s a great time for us to do a little self-check of our own. Middle school is a huge time of growth. It’s not just your shoe sizes that are growing…your tastes in things are maturing and changing, your attitude is changing, and you’re learning a lot more about the world. So come and join us as we explore these topics. As usual, we’ll start with dinner, some time to socialize, music, and then dive into the evening’s theme. Questions? Contact Linda Palomino at palomino6@cox.net or 949-290-3424.

‘La Cena’ (Lah…Chain…Ahhhh) is coming!

‘La Cena’ is coming on Saturday, July 17th and again on Saturday, August 14th. Check out the flyers on the Concierge Shelves or the outdoor poster! Each evening will commence following the 5:00 p.m. Mass. Pre-paid advance reservations will be required but in a nod to everyone’s tightened budgets the tiered pricing for each evening will be only $25 per adult (15 and up), $15 for children (10-14) and only $10 for wee-ones (2-10), infants under 2 are free. This being a fund-raiser we are of course looking for whatever donations of food, beverage or supplies we can obtain that will cut down on our initial costs. If you know of any generous suppliers of quality sausage, pasta, bread, salad fixings or good vino…please make contact with either Lisa Aguirre (lisa-a@cox.net) or Georgina Yacap (gyacap@cox.net.) Thanks….or as they might say in Italy…. Ringraziarla molto!

For those of you who may be ill or unable to travel to Corpus Christi for Mass, we have some good news! A Diocesan priest, Fr. Joseph Nguyen, has begun broadcasting TWO Sunday Masses, one in Vietnamese at 10:00 a.m. and repeated at 11:00 p.m. (from St.Polycarp in Stanton) and the other in English at 8:00 a.m. and repeated at 1:00 p.m.(from ST. Bonaventure in Huntington Beach.) These Masses can be found on Channel KJLA 57.6 and on satellite Galaxy 10. While you may not have the same experience of actually being amidst the community….at least you will have the nourishment of a televised liturgy! For more info, please call Fr. Nguyen at 714-843-188

Our SPRING Sacramental Prep Session approaches…
A reminder, our parish policy is that any family seeking the Sacrament of Baptism, First Reconciliation or First Eucharist, Marriage, needs to have been a REGISTERED PARISHIONER for a minimum of THREE MONTHS prior to the setting of any Sacramental dates. (Thus, someone registering today, may call in three months to begin the process of scheduling a date….not register and schedule at the same time.)

Our next Sacramental Preparation Session for families of children desiring First Reconciliation and First Eucharist here at Corpus Christi is scheduled for Saturday, May 15th at 2:30 p.m., concluding with the 5:00 p.m. Mass. Please note that participation at one of our quarterly Sacramental Prep Sessions prior to scheduling a First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is a parish requirement. You will receive your Sacramental Registration Form at the conclusion of the session. This policy is binding for ALL families, both those who have multiple children (who may have already received one or more First Eucharists, fresh attendance at the Sacramental Prep for each child is necessary) and for those approaching the Sacraments for the first time. To ensure adequate supplies, please call Peggy Armenta at (949) 389-9209.

It is important to note that these Sacramental Preparation Sessions augment but DO NOT replace our parish policy of parents teaching their own children the essentials of our faith and introducing their own children to the person of Jesus Christ. These Prep Sessions are final steps to ensure that parental education has indeed been happening.

Yes, these are rough financial times….but your generosity can help today’s youth become tomorrow’ s leaders!
The 2010 Youth Leadership Summit will be held August 16 – 20th at the Irvine Outdoor Education Center, a new one-of-a-kind facility located adjacent to Irvine Regional Park. High school students, who have been selected as Corpus Christi Youth leaders, will spend the week learning and practicing skills such as small group facilitation, peer helping, large group presenting, and more while exploring their faith and talents. They will also participate in teambuilding activities, including a ropes challenge course. The Youth Leadership Summit is just the beginning though, as Youth Leaders will serve the parish throughout the year as volunteers in our JAMS middle school youth ministry, in HAVEN high school youth ministry, at parish special events, and more. while continuing to build their leadership skills. The cost for each youth to attend the summit is $400.00 including lodging, food, activities, and supplies. Can you help sponsor/partially sponsor one of our youth? If so, please send your check to Fr. Fred…. THANK YOU!!! Thank you!!! Thank You!!! Thank You!!! Thank You!!! Thank You!!!
Hey DADs…let’s go camping right here on our lawn!!!

Hey POPs (that would be you DADs)…keep a look out for the Spring Camp-out Registration Form that will be available next weekend for the POPs SPRING CAMP-OUT on Saturday May 15-16. Bring your kids and tent or shelter down to the Corpus Christi lawn, pitch your camp and settle in for an evening under the stars. Evening gets underway with dinner following 5:00 p.m. Mass, late-night snacks around the fire-pit, perhaps some stargazing and campfire stories. After a restful night’s slumber (as long as the sprinklers don’t go on!!!), the experience ends with a hearty breakfast on Sunday morning. Reservation forms are on the Concierge Shelves

The California bishops are making an e-mail list…. On May 1st and 2nd, tables will be present outside after all the Masses for your consideration of whether you wish to provide your e-mail address to ‘The Catholic Legislative Network’ so that weekly e-newsletters can be sent you pertaining to issues and actions being taken on assorted legislative issues. In addition, ‘action alerts’ will periodically be sent urging you to contact your legislators in regards to what the bishops of California deem to be priority issues. Please review the flyer in this Bulletin and then on May 1st and 2nd you will be able to decide if you wish to provide your personal e-mail information for a state-wide data base. This information will be forwarded to the California Catholic Conference and will not be the responsibility of or overseen by Corpus Christi.

There is lots going on NEXT weekend….take a look!!
#1: Next weekend, April 24-25, we will be accepting a second collection for the Catholic Home Missions which supports missions here in the United States especially in areas such as Alaska, Appalachia, the Deep South, the Rocky Mountain states, Puerto Rico and island Diocese in the Pacific and Caribbean. 95 cents of every dollar donated to the Appeal goes directly to the missions to support pastors in their ministry and to provide basic pastoral services. As always, the basket will be on the altar at the end of Mass for your consideration. Thank you for your generosity.

#2: Please note that next Saturday, April 24th, Bishop Tod will be with us for our HAVEN Confirmation Mass at 5:00 p.m. In your generosity, please keep Prisca Arroyo, Jonathan Balcewicz, James Bennett, Ilyana Capellan, Samantha Cathcart, Leslie Chang, Toni Dymon, Jessica Eisenbart, Emily Elkins, Laura Flynn, Andrew Frerk, Benny Garcia, Blake Gomez, Noah Graham, Jacqueline Greger, Regan Grishaber, Jeralyn Jelnick, Allison Kerins, Bernard Macaya, Bryan Maldonado, David Mickle, Miranda Mills, Sydney Molinar, Brandon Moshenko, Katelyn Nyberg, Corrie Potter, Alyssa Tanorie, Dan Wayner and T.J. Yacap in your prayers as they embrace the Gifts of the Holy Spirit next weekend.

#3: Being the LAST WEEKEND of the month, next weekend will also be our opportunity to collect food for the South County Outreach Food bank. During the last few months we have donated over TWO TONS of non-perishable items to South County Outreach, which they are incredibly grateful. The food hamper will be on the courtyard to collect your non-perishable food items. THANKS!

You may have noticed that on Palm Sunday we were once again blessed with an over-the-top abundance of palm fronds for environment and for blessing. Each year we have experienced the generosity of Modern Tree Service who responds to our call for palm fronds. They not only offer them to us free of charge, they call back to make sure we have enough. With Spring gardening chores upon us, if you find yourself in need of any trimming or tree repairs, please consider giving a call to Jim Klinger at Modern Tree Service at 494-7273. Let them know that Corpus Christi sent you!

Feeling generous? Corpus Christi could really benefit from some fresh 10X10 portable canopies, now available at COSTCO for $150 each. Wind, frequent use and inclement weather take their toll on our supply…and if you would like to help out the parish, we could sure use some new un-ripped/un-broken shelters!! Thanks for considering it!!!
