Can you help one of our 34 Youth Leader Candidates?

Corpus Christi is blessed with a great treasure in our parish youth that seek (and are accepted) to become Youth Leaders. The result of an evolving process of initial preparation and then ongoing training, our Youth Leaders are the ones you most frequently see serving at La Cena, selling food in our Food Booths, helping out at JAMs and HAVEN events and assisting with Faith Formation gatherings. They are, in a word, simply incredible. This year, our new Youth Ministry Coordinator, Mr. Vini Nunez is developing a revised multi-tract approach of training and prep that will offer both specific opportunities for those NEW to Youth Leadership and more advanced experiences for those choosing to return and continue as Youth Leaders. Thus, this summer’s Youth Leadership Experience is not a single Retreat/Summit  but a series of experiences starting with all our Youth Leaders participating with the ‘Azusa Pacific University- Student Leadership Conference’ (where they will have the opportunity to interact with youth-leaders from other faiths and from all over the Western US) in early July followed by further team/leadership development tracts throughout the summer for the varied Leadership Levels of our Youth Leaders. With transportation, tuition, room and board and assorted food costs for both the Conference and follow-up events factored in, this Summer’s Youth Leadership Development will cost $500 per youth….and we are now accepting Sponsorship/Partial Sponsorship donations to help offset the cost for each of our 34 youth who are being interviewed for this year’s Leadership training. In the past, your generosity has TREMENDOUSLY reduced the final cost for which each youth is individually responsible and I hope we can  again count on your kindness and support. If you wish to make a Sponsorship donation to support this year’s Youth Leadership efforts, please send your Sponsorship  (via the weekly Stewardship/Offertory collection or via US Mail) to Fr. Fred or give me a call (389-9011) to discuss putting it on your VISA/MasterCard or AMEX. Thank you, as always, for your love and care of our youth…the Church of today AND tomorrow.  FKB

Networking and Employment Transition Support Ministry: Attention all job seekers and career changers…it’s time to pull out those resumes again, dust them off, and spruce them up. A great resume is a thing of beauty. It is your first chance to make a great impression, your own personal marketing piece that must say the most about you in the fewest words, while speaking directly to the job that you are seeking. And though it is not the easiest piece to write, it’s definitely worth spending the time to get it right. NETS is so pleased to welcome Mr. David Etnire and Mr. Dean Calvano to discuss the keys of an effective resume. Mr. Etnire has been a technical writer for over 15 years and possesses proven insight into what a good resume needs in order to target the job you want. Mr. Calvano is an interviewing expert and a seasoned recruiter who knows well what employers are looking for in a resume. Together, in their entertaining and informative presentation, “Easy Steps to Writing a Winning Resume” on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 7:30 p.m., they will guide you through the essential components of a successful resume. They will show you simple ways to tailor your resume for each job, how to find the right person to send your resume to for the best result, and how to properly follow up with potential employers. Please RSVP by contacting Ed Jordan at ejordan@noletspirits.com or 949-389-1715.

Next weekend, April 28-29 we will have a second collection opportunity to benefit the HOME MISSIONS, those places in our own United States of America that are impoverished and in need of the resources we so easily can afford. Envelopes will be available for your convenience.

Summer traditions keep right on happening….

but take on new and special importance this year….

In the midst of all the parish changes that will be occurring this Summer, it is important to remember that parish life continues…and one of the best ways to reassure yourselves that Corpus Christi is still Corpus Christi is to make plans to attend and enjoy this Summer’s two ‘La Cena’ evenings of food and music. Scheduled for  Saturday, July 21st and again on Saturday, August 18th, each evening will commence following the 5:00 p.m. Mass  outdoors on our lawn. Pre-paid advance reservations will be required but in a nod to continuing economic uncertainty, the tiered pricing for each evening will be only $25 per adult (15 and up), $15 for children (10-14) and only $10 for wee-ones (2-9),  infants under 2 are free.  This being a fund-raiser we are of course looking for whatever donations of food, beverage or supplies we can obtain that will cut down on our initial costs. If you know of any generous suppliers of quality sausage, pasta, bread, salad fixings or good vino…please make contact with either Lisa Aguirre (lisa-a@cox.net) or Georgina Yacap (gyacap@cox.net.) With pastoral transitions having just occurred, these ‘La Cena’s’ will be a wonderful opportunity to not only meet and experience Corpus Christi’s new Pastor (and perhaps a new Parochial Vicar…keep your fingers crossed) but also demonstrate to him (them) who we are! Make sure you get the dates on your calendar.

Congratulations Father Christopher Smith – NEW Cathedral Rector…

Our congratulations are extended to Father Christopher Smith on his appointment as the new Episcopal Vicar-Rector of the Crystal Cathedral…(a new name has not yet been decided upon.) Father Smith is presently the Diocesan Director of our Ministry to Priests efforts, you may be familiar with him as he has participated with most of our Corpus Christi Penance Services over the years.  Father Christopher will take up his new role on July 1st, and he does so with our pride, prayers and congratulations!

In addition…

While you have not met him, our congratulations are extended as well to Father John Moneypenny who has been appointed as the NEW Vocations Director for the Diocese of Orange. He will be succeeding Fr. John Nenemen (who has assisted with our Reconciliation Services in the past), who will be going on a sabbatical leave before embracing his next assignment.

Are you GLOWing?? GLOW: God’s Love of Women: Join Chapters Women’s Ministry  on Friday, April 27th after 8 a.m. mass for our next GLOW Get-together!  We will be serving breakfast and will have time to  fellowship with the women of Corpus Christi. Contact Jackie Kleinhammes at 837-4441or jkleinhammes@cox.net to RSVP and/or sign up to bring a breakfast item!

Something for your SPRING growth and formation…

Corpus Christi Adult Faith Formation presents “Church History As Told Through The Great Popes” a hierarchical history course exploring the key developments of the Church over the past 2000 years.  From Peter to Pope Benedict XVI, the course will encompass papal encyclicals, church documents and great speeches given by the “shepherds” of the Church.  The class will be taught by Shawn Wehan (Coordinator of Adult Faith Formation) and will involve lecture and small group sharing.  The class will take place on Monday evenings at 7PM and repeated Tuesday mornings at 10AM.  The remaining course dates are: April 23 & 24, 30 & May 1, 7 & 8.

Our POPs Ministry (Dads and their kids) has two nifty and fun events planned for Spring:

*Spring Barbeque and Movie Night on Friday, May 4th from 6pm –9pm. Weather allowing, the evening will be on our lawn and include a barbeque dinner, drinks and a kid-friendly feature on an outdoor big screen under the stars. Cost will be $10 per adult and $5per child. Sign-ups will occur after Masses this weekend and  the 28-29.

and

*4thAnnual CAMPOUT on June 2nd, 6pm overnight to the morning of June 3rd at 8am. This fun and kid-friendly overnight on our Corpus Christi lawn will feature dinner and breakfast prepared by FKB, a bonfire, s’mores, music and fun times with lots and lots of fellow dads and their kids. Cost is $10 per adult and $5 per child. Each family is responsible for providing their own tent and  sleeping equipment. Sign-ups after Mass on May 19-20 and 26-27.

Mother’s Day is three weekends away, May 12-13. Special Mother’s Day cards, by which to enroll your moms, living or deceased, in  a special series of Masses, are now available on the Concierge Shelves. Thanks.

Have you ever thought of becoming a FOSTER PARENT?

We are excited to have BETA FOSTER CARE, one of Orange County’s premier Foster Family organizations coming to Corpus Christi NEXT weekend, April 28-29. They will be available after all the Masses to share the opportunities to become a FOSTER parent. Corpus Christi was in the forefront of parishes encouraging foster-parenting/adoption opportunities for the MANY children who are presently without loving parents…and we began our advocacy with Beta Foster Care. Susan Toice is our Parish Advocate to help families understand the process; if you have been considering this as an option for your family or have questions, her number is on the front of the Bulletin. Thanks.

Now that you have paid your taxes….how about a review of your $$$ support of Corpus Christi?

It is easy to slip into casual  or ‘old-mindsets’, especially when it comes to financially supporting Corpus Christi through weekly Stewardship/Offertory. We have always advocated ‘The FIRST HOUR’ as a mature and intentional manner of prayerfully supporting the parish. ‘The FIRST HOUR’ is the dedication of the first hour of compensation from a presumed 40-hour work-week and then seeing that FIRST HOUR of each week, whether it be at a computer, a meeting, teaching, changing somebody’s oil or driving a taxi, as a way of saying GRACE upon the week; a way of expressing gratitude to God for the opportunity to be employed. ‘The FIRST HOUR’ is far less than the Scriptural ‘tithe’ of 1/10th…but it seems to be a memorable and do-able formulae for today’s busy families. ‘The FIRST HOUR’ for the parish, the other 39 for your own needs and bills. This might be a suitable time to review your financial support of the Corpus Christi and determine whether you are supporting your PARISH FAMILY INTENTIONALY…or just grabbing some loose change that wouldn’t even get you into a movie…or…just giving what you saw your mom and dad giving back in 1950? Please…consider giving ‘The FIRST HOUR’ a try…and know that you are blessing your workweek at the same time. Thanks.
