Corpus Christi CCC AV – Bulletin for May 5-6, 2012

Date:

May 5-6, 2012

A few words from  our Youth Ministry Coordinator, Vini Nunez:

We have finished interviewing all the applicants for Youth Leadership.  Applicants completed a thorough application explaining their involvement in the community of Corpus Christi as well as a 15-minute interview with a panel of Youth Leaders.  Our interviewing panel was very impressed by the caliber and heart of those that are seeking to be a Youth Leader for the upcoming year.  Their energy, faith, and vision for the upcoming year is creating an energetic vibe in our HAVEN community.  Please continue to pray for our youth. In addition, as  Fr. Fred has stressed, we  need your help to financially support the Youth Leadership efforts here at Corpus Christi, if you can contribute a full or partial sponsorship for their summer Leadership Preparation, that would be HUGE and WONDERFUL!  Thank you.  Vini Nunez – vininunez@corpuschristialisoviejo.org (949) 831-2349

So far we have received FOUR full sponsorships and some partials… ….can you help our YOUTH?

Corpus Christi is blessed with a great treasure in our parish youth that seek (and are accepted) to become Youth Leaders. The result of an evolving process of initial preparation and then ongoing training, our Youth Leaders are the ones you most frequently see serving at La Cena, selling food in our Food Booths, helping out at JAMs and HAVEN events and assisting with Faith Formation gatherings. They are, in a word, simply incredible. This year, our new Youth Ministry Coordinator, Mr. Vini Nunez is developing a revised multi-tract approach of training and prep that will offer both specific opportunities for those NEW to Youth Leadership and more advanced experiences for those choosing to return and continue as Youth Leaders. Thus, this summer’s Youth Leadership Experience is not a single Retreat/Summit  but a series of experiences starting with all our Youth Leaders participating with the ‘Azusa Pacific University- Student Leadership Conference’ (where they will have the opportunity to interact with youth-leaders from other faiths and from all over the Western US) in early July followed by further team/leadership development tracts throughout the summer for the varied Leadership Levels of our Youth Leaders. With transportation, tuition, room and board and assorted food costs for both the Conference and follow-up events factored in, this Summer’s Youth Leadership Development will cost $500 per youth….and we are now accepting Sponsorship/Partial Sponsorship donations to help offset the cost for each of our 34 youth who are being interviewed for this year’s Leadership training. In the past, your generosity has TREMENDOUSLY reduced the final cost for which each youth is individually responsible and I hope we can  again count on your kindness and support. If you wish to make a Sponsorship donation to support this year’s Youth Leadership efforts, please send your Sponsorship  (via the weekly Stewardship/Offertory collection or via US Mail) to Fr. Fred or give me a call (389-9011) to discuss putting it on your VISA/MasterCard or AMEX. Thank you, as always, for your love and care of our youth…the Church of today AND tomorrow.  FKB

Summer traditions keep right on happening….

but take on new and special importance this year….

In the midst of all the parish changes that will be occurring this Summer, it is important to remember that parish life continues…and one of the best ways to reassure yourselves that Corpus Christi is still Corpus Christi is to make plans to attend and enjoy this Summer’s two ‘La Cena’ evenings of food and music. Scheduled for  Saturday, July 21st and again on Saturday, August 18th, each evening will commence following the 5:00 p.m. Mass  outdoors on our lawn. Pre-paid advance reservations will be required but in a nod to continuing economic uncertainty, the tiered pricing for each evening will be only $25 per adult (15 and up), $15 for children (10-14) and only $10 for wee-ones (2-9),  infants under 2 are free.  This being a fund-raiser we are of course looking for whatever donations of food, beverage or supplies we can obtain that will cut down on our initial costs. If you know of any generous suppliers of quality sausage, pasta, bread, salad fixings or good vino…please make contact with either Lisa Aguirre (lisa-a@cox.net) or Georgina Yacap (gyacap@cox.net.) With pastoral transitions having just occurred, these ‘La Cena’s’ will be a wonderful opportunity to not only meet and experience Corpus Christi’s new Pastor (and perhaps a new Parochial Vicar…keep your fingers crossed) but also demonstrate to him (them) who we are! Make sure you get the dates on your calendar.

Transition news…

Still no news on where FKB is going or who is coming here, but the plans are firming up for the weekend of June 30-July 1st as the occasion of final FKB-Masses. On Saturday, June 30th there will be the usual 5:00pm Mass for those who do not like crowds or outdoor events  (with nothing following….just a simple Mass, indoors) and then on Sunday morning, July 1st, we will celebrate ONE SINGLE Mass at 9:00am, outdoors on the lawn, followed by continued music along with a lovely reception prepared by our own Chef Bill Barber,: Pulled Pork Sliders  (with barbecued pulled-pork made by FKB himself), Cashew Chicken Sliders, Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, Assorted Fruit, Marble Sheet Cake and plenty of beverages. There will NOT be an 8, 10 or 12 Noon Mass that day, just one Mass at 9am. Parking will be available on the street and elsewhere, so plan accordingly. If you would like to help with the July 1st events, here are the people to contact:

Scotty Eisenbart, overseeing the food PREP and SERVICE volunteers; Scott@eisenbartandsons.com

Maribeth Cooper, partnering with Scotty to keep the food tables well stocked and serviced; overseeing any High School Youth who want to participate; mbcooper3@cox.net

Having a picnic on Memorial Day? Our Youth BOOTSTRAPS Ministry has got you covered….

With the approach of Memorial Day weekend, Our Youth Ministry BOOTSTRAPS (youth working to earn the monies they need for program costs) has you covered for your Memorial Day picnic outings. On May 26 and 27 they will be offering FKB’s Pulled Pork Sandwiches as well as containers of frozen Barbecued Pulled Pork. Come hungry that weekend!

Some changes within Good Shepherd/Child Care…

This past Monday we learned of another transition occurring here at Corpus Christi within our Good Shepherd/Child Care efforts. Jeannette Klem, who has given her heart and love to our children for the last year has recognized that familial circumstances require her to back off from outside commitments and she regretfully submitted her resignation from oversight of Child Care. Thank you Jeannette for your tender care of our littlest parishioners, our prayers and hopes for you (and especially Delaney) go with you.  While good-byes are difficult we are happy to share the happy news that long-time parishioner Betina Pang has accepted the responsibilities of becoming the NEW Director of Child Care/Good Shepherd Ministry.  With her background as a school teacher and involvement with our Faith Formation efforts we can vouch for her boundless energy and creative spirit. Please make a point to welcome Betina when you encounter her in the Good Shepherd areas doing what she has already demonstrated she excels at: loving our children! FKB

Our Ministry Fair is coming….how can you make a difference by becoming more involved?

Our annual Ministry Fair is approaching on the weekend of May 19-20 (Ascension Weekend). Throughout that weekend, ALL of Corpus Christi’s Ministries, Outreaches and Organizations will be available for you to peruse and learn of the services they offer. More importantly, the weekend provides an excellent opportunity for YOU to consider what endeavors you may want to become involved with, thus helping to strength Corpus Christi while at the same time enriching your own life. Please allow some extra time that weekend to linger and browse and help Corpus Christi grow!
