‘La Cena’ (Lah…Chain…Ahhhh) is coming back!!!
Last year’s Summertime mega-hit, ‘La Cena’ is coming on Saturday, July 16th and again on Saturday, August 6h. Each evening will commence following the 5:00 p.m. Mass. Pre-paid advance reservations will be required but in a nod to everyone’s tightened budgets the tiered pricing for each evening will again be only $25 per adult (15 and up), $15 for children (10-14) and only $10 for wee-ones (2-10), infants under 2 are free. This being a fund-raiser we are of course looking for whatever donations of food, beverage or supplies we can obtain that will cut down on our initial costs. If you know of any generous suppliers of quality sausage, pasta, bread, salad fixings or good vino…please make contact with either Lisa Aguirre (lisa-a@cox.net) or Georgina Yacap (gyacap@cox.net.) Thanks….or as they might say in Italy…. Ringraziarla molto!

We have one sponsorship so far…and 36 applicants! Can you help?
Corpus Christi’s 2011 Youth Leadership Summit will be held August 8-12 at the University of California at Irvine campus (UCI). High school students, who have been selected as Corpus Christi Youth leaders, will spend the week learning and practicing skills such as small group facilitation, peer helping, large group presenting and more while exploring their faith and talents. They will also participate in assorted teambuilding activities, The Youth Leadership Summit is just the beginning though, as Youth Leaders will serve our parish throughout the year as volunteers in our JAMS middle school youth ministry, in HAVEN high school youth ministry, at parish special events and more. while continuing to build their leadership skills. The cost for each youth to attend the summit is $400.00 inclusive of lodging, food, activities, and supplies. Can you help sponsor/partially sponsor one of our youth? If so, please send your check to Fr. Fred…. THANK YOU for your support of today’s and tomorrow’s youthful leaders!

A ‘Start of Summer’ invitation to our collegian/university/community college youth….
You may recall back in December we hosted our first outreach to Corpus Christi Collegian/University youth…with great success. It was decided at that gathering that we would not only send weekly e-mails to all Collegian/University youth desiring the Bulletin and Worship Aids but also have a ‘Start-Of-Summer’ Beach event and an ‘End-Of-Summer’ Mass and Brunch. We are happy to share that any/all of our Corpus Christi Collegian/University/Community College Youth are invited to a lazy evening overlooking The Strand (near the Ritz Carlton) on Sunday, June 12th. Sign-up/RSVP forms are available on the Concierge Shelves; please return them, along with a modest $10 deposit to lock in a spot to gather with your friends and our parish outreach team of Lisa Aguirre, Ryan Hays and FKB. The beach is calling….what a perfect way to end your quarter/semester and segue to summer!

Our Corpus Christi Book Club invites you to enjoy something old, something new. Please join us on June 6, 7:00 P.M., Meeting Room 4, for discussions of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison. Enjoy your 4th of July celebration by taking the month off from Book Club and join us again on August 1, 7:00 P.M., Meeting Room 4, for discussions of and Lady Chatterly’s Lover by D.H. Lawrence and The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields.

Invite your friends and come enjoy our afternoon Tea! The cost is $35.00 per person, final Mass ticket sales will be the weekend of May 28-29. Last day to reserve your spot is June 1st. Contact Jackie Kleinhammes at jkleinhammes@cox.net or 949/837-4441 to answer any questions.
Volunteers Needed! We are feeding the Masses! Well, actually after the Masses….. as our 12th Anniversary is approaching we are gearing up for our Annual Anniversary Receptions after all of the Masses on the weekend of June 25th and 26th (right before the 4th of July!!) This year Scotty Eisenbart (of Thanksgiving Dinner fame) is overseeing our post-Mass celebrations on our 12th Anniversary weekend. We are looking for volunteers to help prep food, monitor the buffet tables, serve food and drinks. Volunteer shifts are available before, during and after all weekend masses. If you would like to volunteer, please give Scotty a call at 395-3073. Thanks.

Ooops, we neglected to thank Angie Gatuso for sewing the banners used at our Easter Masses. Thank you Angie!
Corpus Christi Pentecost Ministry Fair – June 11-12 Our parish tradition is to celebrate Pentecost weekend with a Ministry Fair. Each parish Ministry/Outreach will be represented with a booth showing how they meet/serve the needs of our community. We celebrate Liturgical, Faith Formation, Service, Outreach and Social ministries during this weekend. It’s a great opportunity to see and become more deeply involved within our vibrant parish life we are creating at Corpus Christi. Each ministry has different needs and opportunities, please allow extra time that weekend to familiarize yourselves with what Corpus Christi offers.

Just a reminder…here at Corpus Christi, we fingerprint ALL our volunteers (and staff of course!)
In preparation for our annual Ministry Fair (June 11th-12th) just a reminder that it is our policy at Corpus Christi that every volunteer, in every Ministry (no exceptions) be fingerprinted through the Diocese of Orange and participate in an online Safe Environment Training before you can become active in ministry work. Please allow several weeks for the clearance and process to be completed. Note that fingerprint information is not shared between different organizations, if you have been fingerprinted for work, school, scouts, sports, etc. you will need to be printed again for the Diocese of Orange. The parish reimburses every volunteer for the cost of fingerprinting. Please contact our Safe Environment Coordinator at safeenvironment@corpuschristialisoviejo.org to begin the process. Thank you for honoring our policy.

Memorial Day Weekend, May 28-29, being the final weekend of the month will be our monthly non-perishable food collection opportunity to benefit the Food Bank at South County Outreach. Please bring your items and deposit them in the hamper that will be on the courtyard. Thanks. FKB

As you know, we are going through a period of major transition within our HAVEN/JAMs Youth Ministry as well as Faith Formation for Children/Families. This transition has prevented us from being able to adequately plan, recruit volunteers, advertise, etc. Since these two ministries have always played essential and crucial parts of any summer camps for youth/children or families, regrettably it will not be possible to host any sort of kid’s camp this summer. Just a head’s up in case you were waiting to see what might be developing.

With the approach of the annual Priest Retreat (June 6-10) please note that there will NOT be any weekday Masses on Tuesday or Friday of that week. Thanks.

Next Saturday, May 21, Auxiliary Bishop Cirilo Flores will be present here at Corpus Christi as 21 of our HAVEN youth receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please keep in your prayers: Sydney Balsamo, Shannon Barrett, Emily Cantwell, Nicholas Carducci, Deven Cervantes, Jillian Chandler, Brennan De La Riva, Michael Dempsey, Arianna Diangkinay, Martin Dymon, Austin Engelbrecht, Eric Hanson, Jason Jaramillo, Maria Juinio, Natalie Kvochak, Brett Moshenko, Ryan Quinones, Matthew Reiser, Andrew Santala, Desarae Vincent and Allison Whitaker.

Another series of Pastoral Council good-byes and hellos…

Since our establishment as a parish in 1999, Corpus Christi has had a form of parishioner-oversight called a ‘Pastoral Council’ which provides the pastor with reflection and vision by which to facilitate and anticipate the growth of our community. Not a Parish Council, which usually entails elections, policy determinations and implementation; a Pastoral Council is a ‘wisdom body’ wherein the overall health and direction of the parish is discussed and consistently reviewed. If you have ten different parishes, you will probably have ten varied approaches to the particular ways in which each PC operates. Here at Corpus Christi new members, after being recommended and vetted by the existing Council participants, are reviewed and invited by me (the Pastor) to join the PC for a four-year term. Our Pastoral Council acts as a consultative body for the Pastor, a group of individuals who are already woven within the parish community and who have a regular opportunity to interact with a broad cross section of parishioners. I can personally vouch for the value of their input and guidance over the years; in ways big and small they have loved, guided and protected our parish family. For the past four years we have been blessed with the presence of Tim Moran, Laura Armor, Ken Babcock and Rhonda Ruiz as four of our PC participants. Tim, Laura, Ken and Rhonda have provided invaluable input and have ably represented the many constituencies with which they have been involved. I am deeply gratified by their loving faithfulness to Corpus Christi. As they complete their four-year terms, we wish them well and look forward to their continued involvement within our community. It is also my pleasure to share with you our newest Pastoral Council members who have been appointed for four-year terms: Shawn Collins, Maria Abello, Lisa Garner and Pat Welch. Officially beginning their terms in July, Shawn, Maria, Lisa and Pat are familiar faces within a variety of parish ministries and will bring fresh vision and energy to our PC. I will personally miss the presence of Tim, Laura, Ken and Rhonda as regular participants within our PC, but I trust that the Holy Spirit will continue to weave them ever deeper within the heart of our community. With great joy I invite you to join in welcoming Maria, Lisa, Pat and Shawn, who are signs of the continuing growth and renewal of The Body of Christ here in Aliso Viejo. FKB
