Kickback…at Corpus Christi….an invite from Linda Palomino for our HAVEN teens….

In the 80’s if you were going to “kickback”, it meant that you were going to hang out and relax. Now days, you might here the word “kickback” used amongst teens in other ways.

What do you think of when you hear that someone is going to a “kickback”? Well, let me tell you about Kickback at Corpus Christi! We’ll meet on Thursday evenings from 7:00 pm—8:00 pm for six weeks, beginning Thursday, January 7th through Thursday, February 11th. You can come to one, or come to them all.

We’ll begin with snacks and time to connect, and then we’ll watch a short , and usually humorous, video clip that will serve as a springboard for a group discussion relating our faith to everyday life. So come kick it, Corpus Christi style! Look for us in the lower hall. You’ll be glad that you did!

Santa Margarita Catholic High School is currently accepting applications from 8th grade students who are interested in being in the Eagle Class of 2014. Applications may be found on our website www.smhs.org under Admissions.

Submitting an application will automatically register your student to take the placement exam on Saturday, January 30th at 8:00 a.m. There will also be an Incoming Freshman Information Night on Thursday, January 14th at 7:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity to see all that Santa Margarita has to offer. For more information, please contact the Admissions Department at 766-6076.

*The Christmas wrappings will have finally been cleared away… *The post-Christmas sales will have already been enjoyed… *In that quiet time between Christmas and New Year’s…. *When you think it might be fun to go to the local mountains… *But don’t want to get all wet and not have anyplace to go… Might we suggest…. Corpus Christi Catholic-Christian Community’s FIRST EVER…
SNOW-HOPEFULLY!
Wednesday, December 30th, 2009 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Similar to what we do with our October Apple Orchard event, SNOW-HOPEFULLY is a Corpus Christi outing open to the entire parish, under the auspices of our POPs Ministry (our outreach to dads and their kids) to the lovely mountain community of Idyllwild (in the OTHER mountain range, the ones that tower above Palm Springs.) We have arranged use of the parish hall at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Idyllwild as our ‘home base’ for the day, thus allowing everyone a place to congregate, dry off, enjoy simple meals and perhaps MOST importantly, have bathrooms!

Idyllwild is a quaint and safe mountain community. At 6,000 feet it does not have any ski resorts (but usually has winter snow,) thus it attracts a family-oriented clientele and the traffic is pretty light, especially in mid-week. There are ‘mountain shops’ and a smattering of eateries, BUT, we will be providing a simple lunch of chicken noodle soup to warm you for a day of play and a modest spaghetti dinner around 4:00 p.m. to nourish you for your drive home.
You provide your own transportation, arriving when you wish and departing when you desire. There is no snow-resort or ski/sled-facility in Idyllwild, but there is a nifty Regional Park (Humber Park) with lots of hills for sledding (at your own risk…and you must bring your own equipment!) Also…no tow ropes or lifts…this is old-fashioned play in the snow sort of stuff….if you want to slide down the mountain…then you need to trudge UP the mountain (and discover why we built ski-lifts!)
Want to just hang out in the warmth of the Hall and play board games? Cool, throw the Scrabble set in the car and come on up! Want to walk the town and have a hot cocoa? We can arrange that! Want to build a snow-man/woman and throw REAL snowballs at each other? With a little cooperation from mother-nature, we can probably make that happen! Want to just lounge around and watch people have a good time….no problem! The day is pretty much of your own making.

For a budget-friendly price of only $8 per adult and $6 per child (over 2 and under 12) we will provide a warm ‘home-base’ at the parish hall, along with lunch, dinner and hot cocoa throughout the day. We will have easy to understand maps to find Humber Park (about four miles from the Church hall) and plenty of directions on how to find whatever it might be that you’re looking for in Idyllwild.

Reservations are necessary and the RSVP cut-off date is Monday, December 28th! Reservations forms are on the Concierge Shelves.

Please mark your calendars for our Advent Reconciliation Services THIS Wednesday, December 16th at 10:00 a.m. (with one priest) and at 7:00 p.m. (with five priests.)

Can you help our Grand Hall BLOOM with Christmas color????
We are once again asking for your help in procuring the LARGE number of poinsettias needed to transform our Grand Hall into a scene of Christmas beauty. Can you help? We need lots and lots of six-inch poinsettias (nothing smaller, but bigger ones are great) plants, any shade or color. Please leave them on the concrete shelf outside the Parish Kitchen. Thanks for your help!!!

Are you looking for a job? We can help! Are you looking for talented and qualified people to hire? We can help!

NETS hosts free monthly mini-seminars offered by experts in the job search field to assist you on your career and job path. If you want to navigate the muddy waters of job transition in these tough economic times, come hear David Appelgate, Senior Director of Business Development and Ron Ploof, Author, Social Media present their views on “How to Improve Your Network” on Thursday, December 17, 2009 from 7:30 – 9:30 pm.

Please RSVP and let us know that you will be attending. Email or call Ed Jordan at ejordan@noletspirits.com or 949-389-1715. Please look on the concierge shelf for the NETS flyers with the full schedule of upcoming mini-seminars.
A clarification on the use of our parish meeting spaces:

The holidays get crowded…and one night of Corpus Christi Diner’s might be hard to squeeze in….so, THIS WEEK on December 15th, 16th and 17th, if you bring the special flyer in this Bulletin to On The Border Mexican Grill and Cantina (over in Town Center) you can have a great time enjoying Mexican food…while also helping our Corpus Christi Building Fund with a 20% rebate on food and beverage purchases (except alcohol.)

YES…THREE DAYS AND NIGHTS of Corpus Christi Diner’s opportunities. Make it a lunch, make it a dinner, a company outing….but mark the dates, December 15th, 16th and 17th on your calendar and make your plans to enjoy some holiday cheer while also helping the parish. Thanks!

With the holidays approaching, please consider trading in your cash or check for SCRIP. An easy dollar for dollar exchange, we make a small profit of a few pennies on each exchange, having bought the SCRIP at a small discount. You may also enroll your grocery affinity card or major credit card so that every time you use any of them, Corpus Christi is automatically credited for a small rebate. Each individual sale is pretty tiny, only a few cents…but multiplied by the thousands of parishioners at Corpus Christi, the potential is HUGE. Please give it a try….THANKS!

It’s Story Time at Corpus Christi! Parents bring your little ones and join us THIS Monday, December 14 at 10:00 a.m. for an hour of song, stories, snacks and fun crafts! Led by our own “Miss Peggy”, you’ll be treated to a rollicking good time and a chance to meet new friends too! The fun will take place in the Good Shepherd room. Children must be accompanied by a parent and are welcome to invite a friend. No reservations are required. See you there!

You are invited to the Annual Rectory Christmas Open House…
A very special Corpus Christi tradition continues NEXT Sunday, December 20th, the annual Rectory Holiday Open House will occur from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Located at 44 Vista del Valle, come and enjoy this year’s Partridges in a Pear Tree, some festive eggnog, home-made cookies and basically have a look-see around. You might be surprised to find that it is not all that different from your own home! From the parish property, go back to Pacific Park and turn left. Go up the hill to PEPPERTREE and turn LEFT. Once you have turned left on Peppertree, at the very FIRST left—turn LEFT…it is the gate entrance to the community. The gate code is 3773 (just those four numbers, nothing else.) Go through the gate and turn LEFT, follow the street as it makes a right turn at the pool…and then in about 800 feet it widens into a cul-de-sac. The Rectory is at 44 Vista Del Valle, on the cul-de-sac. Please park on any of the streets, NOT in any of the courtyards. Come on in and enjoy some pre-Christmas cheer.
