The Cove Gallery in Laguna Beach
is pleased to announce
four new Artists to the Gallery;
Steve Bernstein
Steve is a photography-based digital artist, with his art being created by digitally transforming photographs into works of art. His work is vital, bold and graphic, with a real emphasis on color. Steve works with a wide variety of media, including paper, canvas and most recently, metal.
Photography runs in Steve’s veins. His father was an architectural photographer in New York, and his grandparents were also photographers in its infancy. No surprise then, that imagery has been an important aspect of Steve’s professional and artistic career. Steve’s art has been shown at galleries in California and Florida in the United States, Vancouver, Canada, and Auckland, New Zealand.
Most recently, Steve and his friend and colleague, world-renowned marine biologist Dr Edie Widder, exhibited their collaborative show Illuminating the Deep for four months at the Elliott Museum in Stuart, Florida, and it will open at the Lighthouse ArtCenter in Florida this December.
Steve’s work resides in private collections in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, as well as the offices of the Secretary of State, Florida, and the New Zealand Consul-General’s Official Residence, Los Angeles. Steve’s artistic goal is simple. His art is all about delighting the eyes and stimulating the soul. Steve feels he has succeeded if he creates art that people want in their homes and in their lives every day.
Nancy Roux
Just as a painter creates artwork with brush and canvas, Nancy creates artwork with a camera. Her technique and style represent a radical departure from conventional photography. It’s a journey of discovery she embraces with passion. Her unique works will be on show at the gallery on custom-designed, crafted displays and they are absolutely stunning!
The award-winning artist has exhibited her work in juried art shows, including Southwest Arts Festival, Art-A-Fair Fine Art Festival, Beverly Hills artSHOW, Indian Wells Arts Festival, La Jolla Festival of the Arts, Ojai Art in the Park, Oceanside Days of Art, Calabasas Fine Arts Festival, and Litchfield Park Festival of Arts. Nancy received “Artist Choice” awards in 2013, 2014 and 2015 and her special edition “Panning for Gold” was awarded Best in Show at the “Movement” national juried gallery exhibition (January 2015) in Laguna Beach.
Nancy is a woman of many talents and is the winner of Artist’s Choice award at Art-A-Fair 2016 for her publication of, “Inside the Artist’s Studio”, Laguna Art-A-Fair’s monthly Facebook feature.
Peter McDonald
Peter was a restless journalist when on a whim he took a painting class and discovered a passion he never knew existed. “It was,” the Australian born artist recalled after the first water color class, “love at first brushstroke.” He was immediately drawn to abstraction and his distinctive work is built on watercolor bases and random color and texture and transformed by intricate line work.
More than two decades later his work has been seen in both national and local shows winning numerous awards including the National Watercolor Society’s Frode Dann Award. The late Dr. Alex Vilumsons, the prize winning abstract-impressionist, and Tom Fong, the California master teacher and artist were influential in his development as an artist. He has studied with noted watercolorist Fealing Lin and abtract artist and teacher Terri Balady.
“For me, life is a wonderful abstraction of elusive beauty, mystery and spiritual transformation I feel compelled to explore as an artist and try and make sense of in, well, the abstract,” he explains. He is a member of the National Watercolor Society and the Pasadena Society of Artists.
Julia Hayashi
Julia Hayashi was raised in upstate New York, attended Mississippi State University and Graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Landscape Architecture. After 2 years working as a land planner in Houston, she transferred to southern California and continued to work for 6 years as a land planner. Julia began watercolor classes and discovered a passion for creating art centered on the things that represent what she holds most dearly; people, family, youth and relationships.
Painting portraits of people in an environment that portray little moments of life or connection with others, with places, or even pets are typical of Julia’s work. As of 2014 Julia began to dedicate herself to the pursuit of the work of a watercolorist. 2016 finds Julia growing her skills and style. Although she is admittedly still new to watercolor, Julia demonstrates a consistent style in her work that is being well received and applauded by her local audience.
Julia says that she uses her brush to help others live in a way that
celebrates their journey and their stories. A way that encourages quiet
smiles when remembering little moments of their life. Memories shared and recalled because they have been captured in watercolor and have become a piece of art they walk by every day in their home or offi¬ce. Julia does commissioned portraits and her desire is to provide a smile and joy to people as they look at a personalized piece of art that captures a special moment of their life.
