“Operation Holiday Homework” rewards Boys and Girls Club members for academic achievements
On Thursday December 12, Cox Communications sponsored the Boys and Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley’s annual “Operation Holiday Homework” event. Hosted at Bell Tower Community Center in Rancho Santa Margarita, the holiday event is the culmination of the Clubs’ educational rewards program, which provides members an opportunity to shop for their entire family.

Every school day, Club members participate in Power Hour – a homework help and tutoring program targeting members ages 6-18. As members stay on task, quietly and respectfully, they receive daily points. These points get tallied up throughout the year and members can use them to purchase presents during the Operation Holiday Homework event.
More than 90 community volunteers, including 40 volunteers from Cox Communications, Cox Business and RapidScale, assisted 135 students with their shopping and provided gift wrapping services.

“These kids work so hard to earn a spot to shop for their families. We are so fortunate for the role we play in sponsoring and providing this volunteer opportunity for our employees from across the Orange County market. We look forward to this event all year, and we celebrate the Boys and Girls Club members’ academic achievements! Every year, there are new moments that create lasting memories for me and my family who volunteers with me,” said Jodi Duva, Vice President for Cox Business.
For nine-year-old Dozena, her participation in the program allowed her to brighten the holidays for her parents, three-year-old sister and 15-year-old brother.
“It means to me that for Christmas that I can give my family presents and that I can see Santa. I got my sister a Barbie set and my brother new headphones,” Dozena shared after her presents were wrapped.
“I’m so grateful to the organizations involved because this is very beautiful and special for me and my family,” said Dozena’s mom Linda. “Without this [Operation Holiday Homework] Christmas would have not been possible, so I have an attitude of gratitude.”
