On Friday, Nov. 22, Cox Communications and Operation Clean Slate teamed up to host a mural dedication at Wood Canyon Elementary School in Aliso Viejo to encourage environmental stewardship. The mural is the fifth sponsored by Cox in Orange County this year and the first to have an environmental theme. Students in grades first through fifth painted the mural which was designed by Joneric Ahmundson.
The students at Wood Canyon earned the honor of having the first environmental-themed mural in the county thanks to their work with Inside the Outdoors Foundation.

“We were so impressed to hear about the work the students have been doing with Inside the Outdoors Foundation to refurbish their school garden and install a native plant garden, as well as their efforts in weighing trash and composting through the foundation’s Project Zero Waste program,” said Chanelle Hawken, vice president of government and public affairs for Cox.
“Through our Cox Conserves program, our company has a goal of sending zero waste to the landfill by 2024 and to be carbon and water neutral by 2044, so it was exciting to hear about what the students and faculty at Wood Canyon Elementary are doing to help protect our environment.”
In additional to Hawken, Wood Canyon Principal Paul Foucart, Assistant Principal Heidi Bazansky, Capistrano Unified School District Board of Trustees President, Gila Jones, Operation Clean Slate Executive Director, Michael Howard and Holly Steele from Inside the Outdoors also delivered remarks and participated in a ribbon cutting.
