CRUISIN’ FOR THE GOOD LIFE

Date:

CRUISIN’ FOR THE GOOD LIFE
A Ride Benefiting the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs
And
The Orange County Professional Firefighters Association
Eight years ago, Dr. Alexander Rosenstein, an orthopedic surgeon at South Coast
Medical Center organized a local motorcycle event to raise money for the
hospital’s operating rooms. With the help of a few prominent business leaders,
the first Surf to Turf Ride took place with 45 riders. Over the years, the event has
continued to grow in size and prominence within the Orange County motorcycle
scene.
Three years ago, the ride was renamed Cruisin’ for the Good Life and it now
raises money for the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs (AOCDS)
Memorial Fund. This year funds will also be shared with the Orange County
Professional Fire Fighters Association Fallen Fire Fighters Relief Fund. The Cruisin’
for the Good Life Committee consists of friends and motorcycle enthusiasts, who
pool their contacts, connections and heartfelt efforts to plan an exciting event.
“Cruisin’ for the Good Life is a wonderful opportunity for riders from all over
Southern California to join together in support of our community and support
Orange County’s fallen peace officers and fire fighters,” said Brud LeTourneau,
this year’s chairman of the ride.
Wayne Quint, President of AOCDS said, “On behalf of the 1,850 men and women
of AOCDS, I am delighted beyond words to be selected as the charitable
recipient of Cruisin’ for the Good Life.” The AOCDS Memorial Fund is a vital tool in
financially assisting Orange County deputy sheriffs and their families who are
injured or killed in the line of duty. The Fund also purchases rehabilitative
equipment, transportation services, medical supplies and other resources to assist
in the recovery of injured deputy sheriffs and police officers. In addition, the Fund
buys toys and clothing during the holidays for children of slain deputy sheriffs and
awards $20,000 of scholarship money annually to ten graduating high school
seniors.
Joe Kerr, President of the Orange County Professional Firefighters, said “We
wish to thank all of the committee, sponsors, our members, and friends of
the Orange County Professional Firefighters for their generous participation
in our first association with the Cruisin For The Good Life ride as we continue
to raise funds for The Fallen Fire Fighters Relief Fund®. The success of this
event would not be possible without your continued support.
The Fallen Fire Fighters Relief Fund® was founded in 1998 to aid the families
of our first two brother firefighters’ lost in the line-of-duty. Over the past ten
years the fund has raised over $100,000 and have been distributed to help
lessen the hardship to firefighters’ families throughout Orange County and
California suffering line-of-duty deaths and other catastrophic losses. The
fund, supported by Orange County citizens, employees of the Orange
County Fire Authority, and events such as this has time and again stepped
forward with immediate relief.
This year’s Ride will be held on Sunday, September 27th, 2009
