At a special meeting held Wednesday, February 10, the Orange County Committee on School District Organization ordered that the election to determine the methodology for electing members to the Capistrano Unified School District Board of Trustees take place in November 2010.
This order reversed the committee’s prior decision to hold the election in June, 2010. The decision aligns with the Trustees’ initial request to allow constituents the opportunity to voice their opinion on the proposed change through the democratic process in a manner which best preserves the financial integrity of the district.
“We are very pleased that the Committee supported our position and that the money saved by moving to a November, 2010 election will be preserved for CUSD students,” stated Board President Anna Bryson.
Bryson also thanked the members of the Committee for having the courage and responsibility to reconsider their previous vote and admit that a June election would cost the District approximately Five Hundred Thousand Dollars in scarce resources. “In the end, all parties did the right thing. I hope that this will be another step towards working together in the best interests of the district.”
