Cypress residents showed up in mass on Saturday to the waste collection event held at the Cypress Community Center on Saturday, January 9, 2010. The event, held in partnership with Goodwill of Orange and Curbside, Inc, provided an opportunity for Cypress residents to dispose of electronic waste and other items.
Residents brought electronic waste items, non-controlled substance pharmaceuticals, batteries, fluorescent bulbs and tubes, motor oil, oil filters and needles to be recycled or diverted from local landfills.
The partners of this year’s event collected a total of 220 gallons of used motor oil, 60 grams of pharmaceuticals, 94 gallon containers of needles and sharps, and a whopping 72,885 pounds of electronic waste! “This was by far the largest event we have held, not only in the City of Cypress, but in all of Orange Country in the past 3 years,” said Mr. Robert Muller, Recycling Program Manager of Goodwill of Orange County.
For more information regarding recycling programs, please contact the Recycling Hotline at (714) 229-6708, or www.ci.cypress.ca.us.
