2009 DJAMS TALENT SHOW
This year’s annual DJAMS talent show’s theme is “A Night at the Movies!” Make sure you don’t miss this exciting show in the MPR on Thursday, February 26, 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tickets go on sale starting Monday, February 23, during lunch for $3 or $5 at the door.
DJAMS CHESS TOURNAMENT
The annual DJAMS Chess Tournament has begun and will continue during lunchtimes in the library this week.
STAR WRITING TEST
Testing Schedule March 3rd, 2009
On Tuesday, March 3, we will be on a modified schedule with an extended testing block in the morning following homeroom. Students are expected to arrive at the regular 8:45 start time and will be dismissed as usual at 3:25. During this time 8th grade students will be taking a district-wide reading assessment, 7th grade students will be taking the state mandated STAR Writing test, and 6th graders will be taking a school-wide Spring writing assessment. Please stress the importance of these tests which may determine your child’s placement for middle school and high school classes next year and help us to evaluate our academic programs. Students should remember to:
§ Get a good night’s sleep
§ Eat a healthy breakfast
§ Be at school on time
§ Bring a bottle of water and a silent reading book
GLOBAL COMMUNICATIONS CLASS UPDATE – from Dr. Wallace
Global Communications students are publishing portfolio web sites with links to their historical research projects. The theme of their historical research project: The Individual in History: Actions and Legacies. This project includes 5 web pages with links to their research, annotated bibliographies, and other supporting resources.
Video Production students have completed their first DVD project based on the Individual in History theme. Students have created a DVD to include their annotated bibliography, story board, and historical questions. Students spend the next week viewing the projects and providing each other constructive feedback.
COLLEGE PREP WORKSHOP OFFERED TO GIFTED STUDENTS
UC Irvine is announcing an exciting, new College Prep Workshop for academically gifted students grades 7-9! UCI Gifted Students Academy will offer workshops on the following 4 Saturdays: March 21, 28, April 18 and May 2 from 9 am to 1 pm. Workshops will focus on these important skills: Essay Development and Style, Critical Thinking Skills, Vocabulary Enhancement, and Test Taking Preparation. INCOMING 6TH GRADE PARENT NIGHT AT DJAMS
Parents of incoming 6th grade students are invited to attend DJAMS annual Incoming 6th Grade Parent Night on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the MPR. AAA/GATE Parent Meeting will be held from 6:00-6:30 p.m. before the main presentation.
ONGOING WEIGHT TRAINING CLASS
It’s never too late for students to join Mr. Binley’s weight training session. Classes are held from 3:40 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, in our DJAMS Weight Room. This class is designed for all 7th and 8th graders interested in beginning weight training.
