END OF THE FIRST QUARTER
The end of the 1st quarter is Friday, November 5. Grades will be due from teachers on the following Monday and parents can expect report cards to be mailed home within two weeks.
6TH GRADE ELECTIVE WHEEL CLASSES
6th graders who are taking the Elective Wheel will have a change of classes as we begin our new quarter on Monday, November 8.
o Students currently in Art will next go to Drama in room 808.
o Students in Drama will now go to Home Arts in room 904.
o Students in Home Arts will rotate to Computers in room 900.
o Students in Computers will go to room 903 for Art.
All elective teachers will have this information posted in their room to help students with the transition.
All students in year long band, orchestra or choir will remain the same.
REMINDER: DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME ENDS SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 7
We want to make sure you arrive to school on time Monday morning, so please remember to turn your clocks back one hour Sunday for daylight saving time. Thanks!
NO SCHOOL ON NOVEMBER 11 AND 12
There will be no school on Thursday, November 11, and Friday, November 12, due to Veterans’ Day and Fall Recess.
SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL
The School Site Council at Don Juan Avila Middle School is comprised of three parent representatives. Elected last year were Laurinda Miller and Kelly Sample who will continue to serve their two-year term. PTSA president Vicki Higginson has volunteered to sit on the Council. If anyone else is interested in running for this seat, please contact Patty Farmer in the front office by Wednesday, November 10.
School Site Council meetings are open to all parents and staff. The DJAMS School Site Council is an advisory committee that discusses program development, community involvement, and expenditure of funds.
HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE
PAL’s Annual Holiday Food Drive is underway this week! The Food Drive will run from November 8 to December 3. If you would like to feed a family in need this holiday season, please donate nonperishable items to your student’s homeroom teacher starting Monday.
ASB NEWS
6th Grade Elections:
Elections for the position of 6th Grade Representative will be held during 2nd period on Wednesday, November 10. We wish all of our candidates the best of luck.
Magazine Sale Prizes:
The following events are coming soon. Students should check the lists at the Attendance Window to see if they are invited.
*11/11: Knott’s Berry Farm Trip (9:00-6:00) for students who turned in 20 or more orders.
*11/19: Action Arena/Game Truck (through PE) and Kona Ice Truck (during lunch) for students who turned in 10 or more orders.
*12/2: Acro Dunk Show (during 1st and 2nd periods) for students who turned in 5 or more orders.
*12/2: Kona Ice Truck (during lunch) for students who turned in 5 or more orders.

P.E. NEWS
DJAMS Football Tournament begins on Monday, November 8, during both lunches. Students may sign-up their teams with Mr. Nahl at lunch in the Quad on Thursday, November 4. Adult volunteers are always needed. Please contact Mr. Nahl at: rcnahl@capousd.org. Thank you and good luck to all participants.
WEIGHT TRAINING CLASS OFFERED
It’s not too late for students to sign up for Mr. Binley’s last Weight Training class of the year! Class runs through December 17. Cost will be prorated. This class is designed for all 7th and 8th graders interested in beginning weight training. Please contact Judd Binley if you have any questions regarding the class: jjbinley@capousd.org
DJAMS ANNUAL TURKEY TROT IS COMING!
We will be having our annual Turkey Trot fundraiser on Thursday, November 18, with the event being run during our students’ P.E. classes. This is an outstanding opportunity to support our school and nationally recognized P.E. program. It takes $5 to enter the run. Prizes will be given to race winners and students raising $20 or more. Students are encouraged to get involved and show their pride and support for our school.
RECYCLE EVERY WEDNESDAY
Help our school and help the environment! Bring your plastic bottles and cans to DJAMS every Wednesday morning. ASB will be out in front of the school to collect. Students who drop off a bag of recycling before school will receive a Front-of-the-Line Pass for lunch!
LOST AND FOUND
We have several items in our Lost and Found. Please remind your child to check the Library Lost and Found and also the front office for any missing items. We currently have a brand new pair of running shoes waiting to be claimed. Please see Mrs. Farmer at the front desk.
