Dear Parents,

Thanks to all of you who attended Back to School Night. It was a great success for all. For those of you who were unable to make it, Edline is your best link to your child’s classroom information. Please call the office if you have not yet obtained your activation code for Edline.

MAGAZINE DRIVE

Friday, September 18, is our second turn-in day! We are off to a great start, but haven’t met our goal yet, so please continue to sell, sell, sell! Thanks to all our students and families for supporting DJAMS so far! Students can check out prizes listed on the yellow sheet posted in their classroom. Remember, all proceeds go to fund student recognition, dances, lunch activities, Bronco Buck prizes, and more.

YEARBOOKS

We will be selling yearbooks before school and at lunch on Wednesday, September 23, and Thursday, September 24. They will be sold in the quad. The yearbooks are $35 and checks should be made out to DJAMS.

RUBY’S RESTAURANT NIGHT ALL NEXT WEEK – Monday through Saturday, September 21-26, 5 -9 p.m.

Print out a flyer from Edline and stop by Ruby’s at the Laguna Hills Mall for dinner between September 21 and 26 and Ruby’s will donate 20% of your bill to the DJAMS PTSA! Both dine-in and take-out orders will be counted.

AAA/GATE 2009/2010

All GATE parents in CUSD are invited to attend three District GATE meetings.

GATE Parents Meetings are scheduled for:

10/7, 2/24 & 5/5 from 7PM – 9PM in the Board Room.

DJAMS needs one representative to attend each District GATE meeting. This may be a parent and it does not have to be the same representative each time. Interested? Email Tracy Alexander at tlalexander@capousd.org.

DJAMS ENGLISH LEARNER ADVISORY COMMITTEE FORMATION

DJAMS is looking to formulate the 2009/2010 English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). The major purpose of this committee is to help advise the principal & staff on programs & services to English Learners. If you are the parent/guardian of a current student who speaks English as a second language and are interested, please contact Asst. Principal Judith Roman: jroman@capousd.org.

ORANGE COUNTY FIRE AUTHORITY – OPEN HOUSE

Come out and meet your local firefighters while learning how to protect your family and home through the Ready! Set! Go! program as Orange County Fire Authority hosts its 4th Annual Open House on Saturday, October 3, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Regional Fire Operations & Training Center located at 1 Fire Authority Road (Jamboree & Tustin Ranch Rd.) in Irvine.

Bring your family and friends to see live fire demonstrations, put out make-believe fires, take a ride in a fire engine, and discover life and fire safety in a fun-filled environment. To see how firefighters prepare and stay abreast of current firefighting techniques, demonstrations on the training grounds will occur every half-hour beginning at 9:30 a.m.

REFLECTIONS ART PROGRAM UNDERWAY WITH A THEME OF “BEAUTY IS . . . ”

Students are encouraged to participate in the areas of Literature, Photography, Visual Arts, Musical Composition, Dance Choreography, or Film Production. Entries are due to the DJAMS Attendance Office by the end of the school day, on Monday, October 19. Entry forms and participation rules are available through your child’s English, Drama, Music, or Art teacher; and are available on line at capta.org/reflections. All DJAMS participants will be recognized and entries in each area will be selected to move on to District-wide judging.

DJAMS SURF TEAM

Attention surfers and their supportive surf parents! We are looking for a few good coaches who would be interested in working with a DJAMS surf team. The team would meet one day a week for practice and participate in monthly meets through the ISF. If interested, please contact Kim Bowcutt at kkbowcutt@cox.net.

EARLY OUTS

If your child needs to leave campus early for an appointment or other reason, please have her/him drop a note off at the Attendance Window before school begins. We will then issue a Special Excuse for your child to meet you in the Lobby for signing out at the appropriate time. This will greatly reduce classroom interruptions. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
