ASB NEWS
The magazine sale is underway! We had a great first turn in day and are looking forward to much more. This Friday, September 17, is our next turn in day and next Tuesday is our last. Don’t forget that on-line sales count too! Please see Mrs. Vollebregt if you have any questions or concerns.

PICTURE MAKE UP DAY
For students who missed picture taking at Orientation, we will have a Picture Make-Up Day on Tuesday, September 21, during P.E. class. Order forms are available in the Attendance Office for anyone wanting to order pictures.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
Please join us for Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 22, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This will be an excellent opportunity to meet your child’s teachers and learn about their academic program. Students will be on a minimum day schedule with early release at 12:47 p.m. Your child will be bringing home an invitation with details soon. This is a special parent-only night. We hope to see you here!

SAFETY AND RESPECT IN OUR SURROUNDING COMMUNITY
Please respect our neighboring communities when dropping off and picking up your child. Do not park in the red zones or block driveways. If your child walks to or from school, please talk to him/her about being respectful towards our surrounding neighbors in the community.

Please be sure to review the DJAMS Traffic Plan on Edline at www.edline.net. It is extremely important that parents driving to campus are on high alert and aware of the many children walking and riding their bicycles to school. Please follow all traffic laws within the school zone and encourage your child to use the crosswalk and not walk through the parking lot. Make prior arrangements with your student as to where you will be picking him/her up.

DJAMS LIBRARY
Students should have received textbooks for each of their classes. If your child has not received his/her books, please send him/her to the library for check out. Students need to examine each book for damages that have not previously been recorded inside the cover. If you have any concerns about possible damages please return the textbook to Ms. Norris. Students need to address all textbook concerns by September 30.

DJAMS SERVICE AWARD BRONCO PRIDE
DJAMS community service program, Bronco Pride, is a great way to recognize students for both their academic accomplishments as well as school and community service efforts. We feel that it is important for your sons’ and daughters’ achievements to be recognized. We would hope that all parents encourage their sons/daughters to get involved in the “Bronco Pride” awards. Students are currently getting involved at school and in the community by adopting a planter, helping in the library, assisting teachers, and tutoring. If you have any questions or comments about the awards, please contact Mrs. Balogh.

Savannah’s Organic Garden – Wood Canyon Elementary School is looking for your help to expand and renew their organic garden as part of their grant from Savannah’s Organic Ranch. The new garden design includes pathways for students, solar water fountain, new benches and more. Help is needed Sunday, September 26! This is a great way to accumulate those Bronco Pride hours. For questions please contact Mrs. Balogh at mmbalogh@capousd.org

DJAMS WE ROCK MARATHON PROGRAM
It’s about time for students to start training for the 2011 Orange County Marathon! DJAMS students will once again be participating with We Rock this year. We Rock’s mission is to challenge students to experience the benefits of goal-setting, character development and improved health by providing students with a truly life-changing experience. An informational table will be set up at Back To School Night. Practices begin on Monday, September 27.

CRUTCHES FOR HAITI’S AMPUTEES
The 33 pairs of crutches donated to Mrs. Henry’s Homeroom last school year were shipped to Haiti this summer. Thanks to the efforts of DJAMS students, a large number of Haiti’s amputees will be on their way to walking again. The Hanger Corporation is part of the Haiti Amputee Coalition and generously shipped the crutches to the clinic that they built outside of Porto Prince. The Hanger Corporation was very happy to receive the crutches to aid amputees in becoming ambulatory while going through the process of being fit for prosthetic legs or feet.
