Dear Parents,
Just two more weeks of school left! As always, there are lots of activities coming before June 18, our last day of school. You may want to mark your calendars for the important upcoming dates which pertain to you and your child. We are looking forward to having an exciting, safe and fun end to an awesome year!
If your family will be moving out of our area over the summer time, please let our office know, so we can keep our records updated. Thank you.
END OF THE YEAR ACTIVITIES
8th Grade Dance – The 8th Grade Dance is this Friday, June 5, from 6-8 p.m., in the MPR. All permission slips are due by Thursday, June 4. Photos will be taken at the dance for $6. Please check with the office if you have questions regarding the dress code.
8th Grade Awards Night – We will acknowledge DJAMS’ Most Outstanding Students on Wednesday, June 10, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the Quad. This is an invite-only event.
8th Grade Yearbook Signing Party – On Tuesday, June 16, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the MPR, 8th graders will have an opportunity to receive their yearbooks early and have their friends sign it. If they do not attend the party, they will receive their yearbook in homeroom on Wednesday, June 17.
6th and 7th graders will receive their yearbooks in homeroom on Wednesday, June 17.
8th Grade Wild Rivers Trip – The 8th Grade Wild Rivers Trip is Thursday, June 18. Admission and bussing is paid for by ASB. Permission slips must be returned to homeroom teachers by Friday, June 12. Busses will depart campus at 9 a.m. and return approximately 5 p.m.
CUSD VOLUNTEER POLICY
The Board will be reinstating the volunteer policy as of September 8, 2009. If you have already gone through the process of fingerprinting and TB testing, the District will be issuing universal ID badges which will be good for all CUSD campuses. Volunteers who have already been cleared can come in to receive their photo ID badge at the District Office (33122 Valle Road, San Juan Capistrano) on the following dates:
June 10th from 9:00-12:00 & 1:00-4:00
June 11th from 9:00-12:00 & 1:00-4:00
We will also be issuing ID badges in August (we’ll send out information via ListServ and it will be posted on the CUSD website at www.capousd.org). Please contact the Communications Department at 234-9308 if you have any questions.
DJAMS TEXTBOOK RETURN
8th graders-Please return all textbooks not currently being used ASAP to the library. All other books are due on the day of the student’s corresponding subject final.
7th graders-Textbook return will be Wednesday, June 10th in the student’s science class. All books are due at this time.
6th graders-Textbook return will be Friday, June 12th in the student’s science class. All books are due at this time.
Students with overdue books/unresolved debts will not receive their yearbooks until their accounts are cleared.
REGISTRATION PACKET PICK UP/ORIENTATION
As we near the end of the school year, our thoughts turn toward creating a smooth transition for next year. With that in mind, we want to bring some important dates to your attention. We have set up three days in August when you can come to Don Juan Avila Middle School to pick up your 2009-2010 registration packet.

Monday, August 10, 9 a.m. to noon
Tuesday, August 11, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Wednesday, August 12, 9 a.m. to noon
It is important that you return your completed registration packets on your specified orientation date. Orientation is the time when your child will pick up his/her class schedule, take pictures, and purchase required materials, such as, P.E. clothes, yearbook, etc. Parents are to accompany their child through this process.
