Elks Orange Coast District
December 9, 2009
The Mission Viejo/Saddleback Valley Elks, our local Mission Viejo Elk’s organization, is at it again! On December 12, 2009 they are hosting a Christmas party for Special Children. The party will include a visit with Santa Claus and a picture to take home with them; lots of gifts, food, music and dancing and refreshments. A similar party was hosted by the Elk’s last summer.
These children are not special because of their medical condition or other special needs. They are special for their bravery, positive attitude and acceptance of their condition.
Although they enjoy the events of the party, their real joy is the love and compassion they receive from all the Elk’s volunteers who work on this day and at similar events.
The volunteers would not define their participation as “work” as there is nothing more rewarding than the hugs and smiles that these children give freely that melts even the hardest of hearts.
Pat Martino, the organizer for this event and youth activities chairman said, “Our Elk’s organization is very active in our community with many youth activities, and this event is just one of the many ways we practice what we preach; the ideals of charity, patriotism, services to the nation’s youth, its veterans, the disadvantaged and handicapped, and support of patriotic and civic programs.”
