While fashion week was being held in Paris, France, Mission Viejo / Saddleback Valley Elks Lodge Ladies Group (“Ladies Group”) held their own fashion show. “Fashion Fantasy” was the 36th Annual Fashion Show conducted by the Ladies Group at the
Elks Lodge in Mission Viejo. Chairman of the show was Jinnae Wessling with decorations provided by Carol Glover and Eva Palomares.
While a group of current and past officers dressed in tuxedos served refreshments, led by Exalted Ruler (“ER”) Pat Martino, the ladies enjoyed shopping at several fashion merchant stands that were set up in the Lodge’s “Bird Room”. Fashion merchants included: Rolling Boutique, Cookie Lee Jewelry, Jennifer Talbot Jewelry Design, Modest Goddess, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Ladies Charity Sewing Group and Miche Bag of O.C.
Before the modeling of fashions, the day’s program started with a small tribute to Ladies Group members Jill Jones and Dee Strubb that died during the past year. Attendees then enjoyed a lunch of mixed greens pear salad with raspberry vinaigrette, Chicken Cordon Bleu with sauce, rice pilaf, broccoli with hollandaise sauce and spumoni ice cream with cookie wafer and chocolate truffle. Over 240 lunches were served by Girl Scout Troop 261 and the Tesoro Band Boosters. The lunch was provided by an all volunteer crew led by Clint MacDonald with assistance from Ron Bassolino, John Dellos, Bob Hauxhurst, Herb Kalkosch, Pat Katapski, and Past Exalted Rulers (“PERs”) Irene Romero and Hal Mattson.
After lunch, the fashion show began. DJ Andy Costello provided music to add excitement and enhance the models walk down the runway. Fashions worn by the models were provided by Chico’s, Draper’s & Damon’s and Catherine’s Plus Sizes. As fashions from Chico’s, Draper’s & Damon’s and Catherine’s Plus Sizes were modeled on the runway, they were described respectively by Olivia Balzarini, Karen Elliott and Terri Tenuto. Elks Ladies that modeled the fashions were: Carol Bryan, Phyllis Booze, Sandy Jacobs, Gloria LeCouvre, Judy Longi, Fran Lowery, Juanita Nelson, Georgine Pickering, Pat Ohman, Joyce Saltzgiver, Kate Seiders, Maria Silva, Carol Spring and Shar Urban. The models were escorted to and retrieved from the foot of the runway by ER Pat Martino, Past Deputy District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler Norm Jones, PER Newt Seal, PER Mike Holohan, PER Jim Humphrey, Loyal Knight Roger Yarnell and Assistant Esquire Jason Spence.
Other Elks Lodge volunteers that created the show program, coordinated the dressing room, conducted the raffles and set up the stage run way were: Shar Urban, Lorene Tierney, Jinnae Wessling, Mary Holohan, Stephanie Bongartz, Donna Wild, Pat Ohman, Barb Martino, Jim Wessling, Harvey Ohman, Walter Root, Mike Cline and Jack Jacobs.
