Girl Scouts Launches At-Home Programs

Date:

Girl Scouts of Orange County (GSOC) announced this week  the launch of Girl Scouts at Home, a new online resource to serve all K-12 girls at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The resources include access to Girl Scouts of the USA’s new online platform, featuring free, self-guided activities for K-12 girls and local activities from Girl Scouts of Orange County. There are at-home badge and patch programs, online meeting tools for troop leaders, and resources for assisting the community as Girl Scouts continue to make the world a better place during these uncertain times. These free resources are open to all girls and their families and do not require Girl Scout membership to participate.

“We know these are challenging times, as families look for new ways to engage their children in meaningful activities that help them develop vital life skills,” said Girl Scouts of Orange County CEO Vikki Shepp. “Inspiring ambition is core to Girl Scouts’ mission, and it is our privilege to provide Orange County families with new ways to safely take action and find reassurance at a time when they may feel disconnected.”

The Girl Scouts at Home resources feature a variety of activities based on Girl Scouts’ four Program Pillars (STEM, Outdoors, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship), from using STEM to cook a meal to Community Service resources for helping during this unprecedented time. For Girls Scouts, there are activities to earn a badge, award, or pin, including Girl Scouts of Orange County’s new Creativity at Home patch, which encourages girls to be creative while home and share their creative activities and ideas with the organization.

Girl Scout Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors working towards Girl Scouts’ Highest Awards can continue to do so at home. The Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards challenge Girl Scouts to create solutions for issues they are passionate about and solve problems in their communities and around the world. Given the challenges that the pandemic poses for some Girl Scouts working towards their Highest Awards, Girl Scouts has extended the deadline for project submission to December 31, 2020.

Note: All in-person Girl Scout activities and events were suspended last month through at least May 31 to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

About Girl Scouts of Orange County

We are the Girl Scouts of Orange County. We are 33,000 strong– nearly 20,000 girls and 13,000 adults who believe that every girl can change the world. Girl Scouts began over 100 years ago with one woman, Juliette Gordon “Daisy” Low, who believed in the power of every girl. Today, we continue her vision of building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place, by helping them discover their inner strength, passions, and talents. With programs in every zip code in Orange County, there are opportunities for every girl to do something amazing. We are the Girl Scouts. To volunteer, reconnect, donate, or join, visit girlscoutsoc.org.
