Girl Scouts of Orange County Troop 3743 from Ladera Ranch assembled self-care kits to provide to healthcare professionals as a token of gratitude for their heroic work on the frontline of the COVID-19 health crisis. To ensure compliance with social distancing guidelines from local and federal health officials and Girl Scouts of the USA, the troop is working with Lyft on a seamless, end-to-end contactless delivery system to get the kits to local hospitals while safeguarding the health and wellbeing of all Girl Scout members and Lyft drivers. No Girl Scouts will be hand delivering the kits.
The girls proactively reached out to various companies looking to execute a contact-free delivery, and Lyft responded, offering to act as a delivery service in order to facilitate these acts of kindness – at no cost to the troop or council. There are 200 care kits in total, made up of a variety of donated items that the troop was able to collect, such as essentials oils, homemade sleep masks, stress balls, candles, face masks, bath bombs, energy drinks, protein bars, meditation coloring books, chocolate, lifesavers and of course—Girl Scout cookies. The troop met via ZOOM and each assembled the care kits in their individual homes.
Lyft began delivering the kits on April 15, 2020 to the individual homes of frontline workers.* The initiative is a part of LyftUp, Lyft’s comprehensive effort to expand transportation access to those who need it most. Recently, Lyft launched efforts in collaboration with local governments, nonprofits and community organizations to create new opportunities for drivers, provide rides to those in need, and help distribute essential goods during the COVID-19 situation. To make sure riders and drivers know the best ways to protect themselves and those around them, Lyft is providing continuous updates.
“We are inspired by the generosity and creativity of Girl Scouts Troop 3743 of Orange County to provide care kits to those in need during this time,” said Hao Meng, Lyft General Manager, Southern California. “We’re proud to activate LyftUp and work with the troop to get the care kits to those who need it most.”
* This is a one-off initiative with Troop 3743 and there is no national partnership through GSUSA or a formal local partnership between Lyft and Girl Scouts of Orange County.
