If you are looking for a fun-filled way to give back this summer, consider volunteering during the Symphony in the Cities and Prelude in the Park event on Saturday, July 18 at Oso Viejo Park.
This annual Mission Viejo ritual features a host of activities, food and spectacular music under the stars.
Beginning at 4 p.m., this year’s Prelude in the Park will boast a carnival theme with entertainment and a musical playground – an educational prelude to the 7 p.m. Pacific Symphony concert.
Volunteers are sought for the following activities from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.:
Ask the Orchestra: Children have the opportunity to ask members of the Pacific Symphony orchestra questions, which may be answered during the concert.
Meet the Musician: Children can meet, interact and talk to two Pacific Symphony musicians.
Meet the Young Musician: Kids will have the chance to chat with two Pacific Symphony Youth Ensemble musicians.
Instrument Petting Zoo: Children can “test drive” instruments: small percussion, violins, flutes, trumpets and a trombone.
Science of Sound: Kids will learn how the cello produces sound, how music can resemble animals or emotions and even tips for playing the cello.
Drum Circle: Children will also have the opportunity to learn about rhythm and play various rhythm games on drums.
Marketing volunteers will distribute programs.
Reserved table check-in volunteers will check-in guests and escort them to their assigned tables.
Volunteer check-in helpers will check-in fellow volunteers and direct them to their work areas. They will also provide general information and directions to the public.
Water runners will be responsible for setting up large water containers and distributing them to volunteers working the event.
Volunteering is open to people age 15 and older and is a great way for folks to give back to their community.
