Help Raise Money For New Computers For Chaparral – the current computers are older than the kids using them

Date:

PTA NEWSLETTER: The latest addition of the Chaparral PTA Newsletter, Champion Chatter, is available to view or print out at chpes.capousd.ca.schoolloop.com

PLEASE SHARE YOUR BOUNTY! Please contribute to our Thanksgiving Food Drive. Did you know that there are more than 450,000 people at risk of going to bed hungry sometime each month in Orange County? Children make up 42% of the hungry in Orange County, and the Chaparral Champions would like to help make that number smaller. We will be having a school wide food drive from Tuesday, November 2 through Thursday, November 18. Our goal is to have each student bring in at least one pound of food to share with those less fortunate. Personal care items (such as diapers, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, toilet tissue, soap, brushes, etc.) are also needed. Please bring non-perishable items only and no glass containers. Students should bring their food items to the flag salute each morning or up to the office to deposit in the barrels from the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County that helps more than 380 local agencies feed more than 220,000 people each month.
Thanks for your help for this most worthy cause!

MOVIE NIGHT: Come join Mr. McGann for a Movie Night featuring Toy Story 3 on Friday, November 19 from 5:30 – 8:30pm in the Hall of Fame. Kids (K-5) – have a blast with your friends! Parents – drop off the kids and go enjoy a night out or hang out and watch the show together. Toy Story 3 starts at 6:40, with bingo before the show. The event is free, however, we’re asking you to donate what you pay your sitter ($10/child suggested minimum donation) An optional meal, catered by Baja Surf Tacos is available for $5 per person. See flyer in Thursday Folder or download at chpes.capousd.ca.schoolloop.com. National Honor Society members from Tesoro HS and San Juan Hills HS along with Assisteen members from San Clemente HS will be present to help with Bingo. Mr. McGann and members of the technology capital campaign committee will be on hand the entire night as chaperones. The Chaparral Technology Committee is looking for volunteers. The committee is raising funds to replace the school’s obsolete computers. If you can help out, please email Stephen Rozmiarek at chaparral.technology@gmail.com.

Proceeds will go to help fund the Chaparral Computer Capital Campaign. We need to raise enough money to replace the computers in the lab & classrooms (90 total) because:
-the computers are older than the kids using them
-they have less processing power than an iPhone
-they can’t access websites with Flash, including their math textbook website!

Parents can enjoy 50% off a second dinner entree at BeachFire Bar & Grill, Infusion Restaurant & Martini Bar and Casa Ranchero.
Valid with each paid regular entree of equal or lesser value (present coupon or flyer, November 19 only)
Movie Night – RSVP by Wednesday, November 17 & reserve your spot, space is limited.

PTA COMMITTEE NEWS:
NOVEMBER IS HEALTHY LIFESTYLE MONTH: Take stock of current habits and pick two things that you can improve upon from now until year-end. It has a ripple effect over time on it’s impact! Did you realize that it is important for children to come to school emotionally and physically healthy. Studies have shown that children’s physical well-being has a significant effect on their learning and long-term success. When children are well-rested, well-nourished, and physically fit they are more ready to learn. Parents share the responsibility of ensuring their child’s well-being with teachers, the community, its members, and all its services. Learning the facts about various health concerns is key to this common effort. Here are some great resources that can help: www.pta.org/healthy_lifestyles.asp
