On May 8, 2010, Cypress Mayor Dr. Prakash Narain attended ‘Helping Hands’ Day.
About 175 volunteers from the Cypress Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints joined together for park restoration and beautification projects throughout 12 parks in the City of Cypress. Wearing bright yellow “Mormon Helping Hands” vests, volunteers in Cypress focused on trash pick-up, equipment cleaning, and sweeping of basketball courts and walkways.
Mayor Narain thanked the volunteers for beautifying the community, and presented the Church with a certificate of appreciation for the services to be rendered. “I thank and commend every one of you for your spirit of volunteerism in cleaning our City parks today,” said Mayor Narain.
Volunteer Cami Walker, a resident of the City of Cypress said, “I’ve always loved going to the park. As the Mayor mentioned this morning, our parks help us to connect to nature and each other. As a member of the Mormon Church we are encouraged to be active in our communities and provide service. What better way to do both and enjoy a beautiful Saturday!”
Cypress volunteers were among approximately 45,000 Mormons in Orange County, and 100,000 volunteers state-wide that volunteered to clean and restore California’s parks and beaches.
