HOLLY FELDT TO SERVE AS PRINCIPAL AT BERNICE AYER MIDDLE SCHOOL
At its Board Meeting on Tuesday, May 26th, Capistrano Unified School District Trustees appointed Holly Feldt to serve as the principal at Bernice Ayer Middle School. Feldt will replace outgoing principal Dr. Cheryl Baughn, who is retiring after nearly 40 years of service in the field of education. Since opening the school in 1998, Baughn has led Bernice Ayer to be recognized as a top performing school, earning the title of the prestigious California Distinguished School on two occasions.
The school was also selected in 2005 and 2008 by the State Department of Education as one of 15 “Schools to Watch – Taking Center Stage” in California. “I will greatly miss the staff, community and students at BAMS,” admits Baughn. “It has been a true joy to serve with this talented group of educators and I look forward to following their continued growth and success under the leadership of Mrs. Feldt.”
Mrs. Feldt comes to Bernice Ayer after serving as the Executive Director of Elementary Education for CUSD. “I look forward to moving back into the field of middle school education and am thrilled to have the opportunity to be appointed to such an outstanding school with a culture of academic excellence,” admits Feldt. “Dr. Baughn and her staff have done an amazing job of educating the students of San Clemente.” Feldt brings with her extensive experience at the middle school level, having served as an assistant principal at Niguel Hills Middle School and principal of Las Flores Middle School from 2003-2008. She received the “Johns Hopkins Outstanding Educator Award” in 1993 and earned the title of “CUSD Middle School Teacher of the Year” in 1994.
Mrs. Feldt will begin her tenure at Bernice Ayer Middle School as of July 1st and will work throughout the month of June with Dr. Baughn to ensure a smooth transition of leadership.
