It’s a Great Day… to be a COMET! – A BIG Shout Out to Mrs. Dockins fifth grade leadership for their service to our community

Date:

School is closed for Winter recess Monday December 20th through Friday, December 31st. School reopens on Monday, January 3rd.

On behalf of the entire Wood Canyon staff we wish you a wonderful holiday season filled with happiness and love. We look forward to seeing you in the New Year!

TWO FURLOUGH DAYS REINSTATED
The Capistrano Unified School District Board of Trustees and Superintendent Joseph M. Farley are pleased to announce the reinstatement of two days of instruction into the 2010-2011 school calendar. The days were to be non-working furlough days for District employees, but were restored according to negotiated agreements with employee associations. The reinstated days will be Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011 and Friday, May 27, 2011. Parents please mark your calendars and plan on sending your child to school.

MORNING DROP OFF

BACK OF THE SCHOOL
Parents you may not drop off students in the bus circle or along Aliso Creek Road. The police are increasing their patrol around the school monitoring speeding motorists and cars that are not following the posted signage. Fourth and Fifth grade students can easily be dropped off on the sidewalks along Wood Canyon and use the crossing guards at Aliso Creek or Knollwood to safely enter the school.

FRONT OF THE SCHOOL
Parents we are requesting that in the morning you pull as far forward along the curb as possible. This means that you pull up as far as you can towards the office doors. The drop off area along the curb begins at the office doors and extends all the way to the Wood Canyon school sign. Students should be ready to exit the car as soon as you stop. This means they have their backpack, instruments and have already kissed mom/dad good bye. This will help to move the cars in an out of the parking lot as quickly as possible and help keep our families safe in our lot. Thank you

TOYS FOR TOTS
Thank you to the many families who helped make a family’s Christmas a little bit brighter. Our generous Wood Canyon Community filled five boxes of new and unwrapped toys for the Toys for Tots Drive. Your compassion and spirit of giving truly reflects our Comet spirit and pride. A BIG Shout Out to Mrs. Dockins fifth grade leadership for their service to our community.

ESCRIPT ** Please take the time to sign up your Vons cards (and credit/debit) cards at www.escrip.com as soon as possible. In addition to the e scrip donations we are missing out on with all the holiday shopping if you don’t sign up your cards (NO COST TO YOU), January 2-25, 2011, we will receive 10% back on thousands of items you may purchase from Vons/Pavilions. This really is the easiest, painless way to help our school. Sign-up is easy and free. Our school ID# number is 6681193. If every family would take the time to sign up even one card we could earn thousands for our school! Thank you!
ON TIME IN LINE AWARDS Parents it is important that students start their day off on a positive note. When they are at school on time, they receive the maximum amount of instruction and directions when they are not late. We will begin our On Time In Line incentive program again to reward classrooms for number of students who are not tardy. Help your child’s class be recognized by having them here on time.

CELEBRATION BOOKS LIBRARY DONATION Purchasing a book for the Wood Canyon Library is a great way to honor your child’s birthday, applaud a major accomplishment, recognize good grades or just proclaim your child as an outstanding Wood Canyon Comet. In recognition of your donation to the library, your child is recognized by Principal Overstreet during the Friday morning flag salute and a “Book Plate” will be affixed to the inside cover of your book selection announcing, “This book was donated in your child’s honor!” Recognitions of book donations are presented every Friday at 7:45 am. Book Club Forms can be picked up in the office. Donating a book to the Wood Canyon Library is a wonderful tribute for your child that all Wood Canyon students can enjoy for many years.
