Cox Communications is helping feed families throughout Cox’s California markets with $25,000 donations to Second Harvest Food Bank, Foodbank of Santa Barbara County and the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank. The grants, totaling $75,000 from the James M. Cox Foundation, will support local families in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Cox has always supported the communities we serve,” said Sam Attisha, senior vice president and region manager for Cox Communications in California. “Now, more than ever, supporting our food banks and enabling access to nutritious food for families and children who need our help is so important. We’re committed to doing our part and will continue to partner with great organizations to combat food insecurity.”
“The James M. Cox Foundation continues to be a beacon of support for our food bank, and for our community during the continuing economic crisis,” said Harald Herrmann, CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. “With more than 500,000 people at risk of hunger each month, the only way we can continue to feed everyone who needs our help is through the generosity of donors like the James M. Cox Foundation. We are so grateful for their continued support during this unprecedented time of need.”
Before the pandemic, Second Harvest fed on average 249,000 people per month and distributed 2.3 million pounds of food. Due to the pandemic, that number doubled to more than 500,000 people per month needing food, which represents 5 million pounds of food per month.
The James M. Cox Foundation is the charitable arm of Cox Enterprises, the parent company of Cox Communications. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, the James M. Cox Foundation has donated $150,000 to food banks in Cox’s California markets.
