ALISO VIEJO – – school located at the former Foxborough school, proudly announces its Parent Development Series.
This rare opportunity for parents and educators in the community to get a glance inside what Waldorf-public education looks like is open to the public at the Journey School campus.
Waldorf education, the fastest growing educational movement worldwide, offers children a unique educational philosophy built on human development, social and emotional growth, creativity and artistic expression and connection to nature, with a goal of nurturing life-long learners.
Part one of the series runs the last three Wednesday evenings in September at 6:30 p.m. and will be presented by Waldorf experts Tim Connolly and Bonnie River.
The first presentation by Tim Connolly entitled, “What is Waldorf Anyway?” will be Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room.
Tim Connolly has experience in Waldorf education spanning 20 years as board member, parent, class teacher and administrator. Currently he’s been involved with Waldorf school administration serving as the School Administrator for the Waldorf School on the Roaring Fork and at Journey School. Prior to that he worked as the Dean of the High School at the Sacramento Waldorf School and as an Administrative Services Officer at the Rudolf Steiner College. He is most motivated for this curriculum by his love for childhood.
The second presentation by Bonnie River entitled, “Ten Ways You Can Support Your Child’s Education and School Starting Now!” will be on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room.
Bonnie River, founder and former Director of the Waldorf Program in Graduate Education at Touro University, plays a lead role in educating teachers for public schools inspired by Waldorf education. With more than 30 years experience in teaching, Bonnie brings a wealth of insight and innovative approaches to meeting children’s needs. Bonnie has taught in public schools, Montessori schools, and, mainly, Waldorf schools. She has founded two Waldorf schools; and she has been an innovative consultant to many others. She has been a keynote speaker at many international educational conferences and is highly regarded as a pioneer in the effort to bring therapeutic and compassionate interventions into Waldorf school settings. Bonnie has served as a delegate for the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America, and she now serves on the board of directors of the Alliance for Public Waldorf Education. Bonnie currently serves as the accreditation specialist at Rudolf Steiner College. She is a doctoral candidate at the University of La Verne.
The third presentation titled, “Science Education at Journey School” will be given by Tim Connolly on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room.
Each event is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend. There is a suggested donation of $10 per person and $15 per couple.
