Kindsum Makes Garden Project A Reality

Date:

KINDSUM & COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS ARRIVE AT BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF

LAGUNA BEACH TO UNDERTAKE DAYLONG GARDEN PROJECT

Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach recently experienced an extraordinary day arranged by Kindsum, an organization that introduces those wanting to help with those who need help according to their founder Sebastian Terry. The organizer is a one-of-a-kind matchmaker that helps individuals and groups make their dreams come true by nominating themselves or someone they know, followed by sharing their story of kindness to encourage others to do the same. Sebastian, his company’s cohort, fifteen Club kids, plus seventeen volunteers from various non-profit and corporate entities, all gathered in late March to help clean up the existing Canyon branch garden.

They wound up planting a whopping 80 fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers in the raised garden beds in addition to removing the vines growing over the walls in the garden and around the playground areas. Volunteers were employees representing Warner Brothers, Wells Fargo, Lionsgate, Scotts Miracle-Gro, Superfly, Rogers & Cowan, OZY, Petco, Quantifind, Free Hugs Project, Gen Next, SPMB, and VSCO. Leif Hanson, Club alumnus and chair for the Club’s Night at The Ranch fundraiser, was there to lend a hand too.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support and fantastic work of Kindsum and all the phenomenal volunteers who came to reinvigorate our garden for Club members,” stated CEO of Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach Pam Estes. She added, “The Garden Club is one of our many integrated learning programs and one that engages our Club kids across many disciplines through an active, hands-on experience, which benefits them in a comfortable, outside learning setting.” In addition to the day’s work, Kindsum generously donated $2,000 to the Club to purchase the items needed for the project; including new raised beds, plants, trellis, soli, clippers, and gloves. Youth members of the Garden Club, led by Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach Education Initiatives Director Jonny Navarrete, will continue to care for the plants and harvest the fruit and vegetables for years to come.
