Girl Scout Ashley, from Ladera Ranch, was recently named a Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Distinguished Finalist for the State of California – one of just ten California youth to receive this honor. Ashley was recognized for an initiative she originally began to help offset medical travel expenses for her friend, Katie. Though Ashley started small, she ultimately created a foundation that has an employee and hosts an annual golf ball drop event hosted in cooperation with community partners. Ashley’s Gas4Katie Cancer Foundation has gone on to raise more than $75,000 to support families affected by pediatric cancer.

A high school senior, Ashley also excels academically, volunteered as a peer mentor, and has been a Girl Scout for 12 years. Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place, and Girl Scouts has helped Ashley to become the leader she is today. Girl Scouts gave Ashley the tools she needed to become a G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™. Ashley is an embodiment of what one girl can do when she’s encouraged to take the lead and change the world for the better. Congratulations, Ashley!
