Klaas and Michiel Besseling
Michiel Besseling of Laguna Niguel is training for the Cool Breeze Century ride in Ventura on August 21, 2010, to raise money for cancer research through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), Orange County/Inland Empire Chapter’s Team In Training® (TNT) program. In TNT, participants compete in marathons, bike rides, triathlons and hiking events to raise money for blood cancer research.
Michiel is participating in his first TNT event in honor of his father, Klaas Besseling, who is in the hospital battling a relapse of lymphoma. Klaas rode in five TNT events, the last one in August 2009. Michiel explained, “My dad’s my hero. I’ll be taking his place in the ride this year because he is no longer able to ride.”
Klaas, age 62, also of Laguna Niguel, works as an independent consultant for a medical device company. He was first diagnosed with lymphoma in 1999, and relapsed in late 2009. Michiel works as a sailing instructor.
The LLS Orange County/Inland Empire chapter has raised $1.5 million through TNT in the last year.
