Eleven-year-old pianist Helen Jingen Yeong, a student at the Irvine Yamaha Music Center in Irvine, California has been selected to perform at the prestigious Yamaha 2018 National Junior Original Concert (NJOC). The performance will take place on Sunday, June 24, 2018, at 4 p.m. at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts in Cerritos, California.
The NJOC offers students of the Yamaha Music Education System the opportunity to unlock their full musical potential by composing original pieces and performing them in front of enthusiastic audiences.

Chosen from more than 6,000 young musicians participating in the Yamaha Music Education System nationwide, Helen has prevailed as one of just 13 talented, emerging artists to perform an original musical composition at the renowned concert celebration. She will present Duke Elliot’s Adventure her original composition written for piano and cello.
The NJOC performers, who range in age from seven to 16 years old, will perform new compositions, in a variety of settings, from piano solos to chamber and larger ensembles.
Helen started taking music lessons at the age of five and completed the Yamaha Junior Special Advanced Course in both piano and composition under the guidance of Ms. Su-Shing Chiu. She was a state finalist in the CAPMT Contemporary Music Competition, the national winner of the MTNA Music Composition Competition in 2016 and winner of the PTA Reflections “Award of Excellence” National Level in 2016. Last year, she performed her award-winning original composition at Canada NJOC. Helen also plays the cello in her school orchestra.
Outside of music, Helen enjoys reading fiction books, swimming, and painting.
