Deputy Matt Anderson, a nearly 13-year veteran of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, has been named 2014 Deputy of the Year. He will be recognized by the City Council with other top City and Orange County Fire Authority employees on February 2.
Deputy Anderson’s strong work ethic and commitment to the City has earned him the respect of peers, supervisors and community members.
Assigned to the City of Mission Viejo for the last 5-plus years, Deputy Anderson is a proven leader who is recognized for his knowledge and teaching ability as a Field Training Officer (FTO). In fact, over the time Deputy Anderson has been in Mission Viejo, he has been responsible for training 10 new patrol deputies.
The dedicated deputy is also recognized by peers as a great communicator and source of information. He stays cool under pressure, and residents have noted his compassion and concern. One man said Deputy Anderson is an “asset to the department and the most professional deputy he has ever seen.”
It’s that kind of praise that continues to pepper Deputy Anderson’s employee file. He’s the kind of guy who never shies away from work and is a team player and role model. Deputy Anderson has been applauded for his knowledge of marijuana laws thanks to a yearlong stint with the Marijuana Taskforce and for his dedication to the job.
“Deputy Matt Anderson is a true asset to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and the City of Mission Viejo, and no one is more deserving of this award than he is,” said Chief of Police Services Lt. Brad NewMyer.
