On Monday, July 30, 2012, Dr. Kiran Mayee Nayak, Mayor of Raipur, India visited the City of Cypress with her delegation. Mayor Nayak was in Southern California for the 2nd Annual USA | India Trade Conference where she was a keynote speaker. The trade conference, Creating World Connections | India 2012 was a forum presented by 365 Consultant Inc. to share ideas and learn about the opportunities presented by India’s phenomenal growth, and to foster strong commercial and economic ties between India and the United States. This conference was the second conference presented by 365 Consultants Inc. The first conference took place in 2011 and the focus was on Clean Energy.
Mayor Nayak is the first female Mayor of the Raipur Municipal Corporation. The City has a population of over 1.2 million people. She has been appointed as a member of several women empowerment projects, both at the federal as well as state level of the Indian government. She continues to be a visiting faculty at a couple of law colleges. She is an Advisor of a Legal Point that provides services to those that are either unable to afford cost of litigation or are not knowledgeable about their rights.
Mayor Nayak has been serving in various arenas, including the protection of human rights, empowering women and battered women or providing health benefits to weaker sections of Indian society. As the first female Mayor, her priority was to establish a task force to provide better sanitation facilities and treat waste rather than dump it, thus contaminating the water supply system. For her efforts in establishing the first common treatment plant and providing proper sanitation, particularly to women, the 5th Euro-India Summit has awarded a citation for performing well on the Environmentally Sustainable City Index.

Mayor Nayak’s visit to the City of Cypress was made possible by Mr. Paul Smith of the Small Business Administration (SBA), and Mr. Himanshu Thakkar of 365 Consultant Inc., which presented this year’s international trade conference.
